Ok, I get your point. But I would be going from 480i or 480p on that same 42" LCD to 720p so it at least be an improvement wouldn't it??

Now you've got me trying to convince myself to spend $500 to build my own system to play Wii games! Smile

for 7" screen , yes
Some smartphones even have 1080p display . Do you still think 720p is high-res ?
Dolphin : 2xIR (1280x1056 which is higher than 1280x720) still look like crap on my 14" laptop screen . I use no less than 2.5xIR (1600x1320)

High res and low res are relative terms. High compared to what? We consider 1080p high res right now because higher resolutions are extremely uncommon right now. But in 10 years that may not be the case. And yes most console games still render at 720p or below. But they can usually upscale to 1080p (not that it matters). And this is why many PC gamers complain about the resolution of console games being way behind where they should be.
480p , 720p , 1080p don't matter in Dolphin because we have Internal Resolution (IR)
Higher Internal Resolution will give you better downscaling
It would take at least 7xIR(4480x3696) for high quality graphic to be displayed on your 42" monitor

ok...so I need to stick with a monitor
You seem to misunderstand my point . In PC games , you can't use higher resolution than your native display res .So you have to increase/force it via Nvidia Control Panel (You will need a Nvidia GPU)
In Dolphin emu , you don't need to do that . You only have to increase Internal Resolution
Display resolution is still extremely important. As is output/fullscreen/windowed resolution since it limits the amount of information that can actually be displayed.
Ok, thanks all for the feedback. I have another question because I found another PC on Craigslist today that seems like it should be better...

It has a Core i7-2600 and a Radeon HD 5770 card. Comes with a 23" LED monitor, all for $500. Thoughts?
Looks pretty go so far but we're going to need a lot more detail than that. Post the link.

Not the best video card, I know, but seems like a good all around package with that processor, the monitor and the 1.5 TB HDD
The specs look good and the price is excellent. I've never used craigslist before and tend to be skeptical of buying used equipment at low prices on the internet in general. But I take it that you've used this service before and are already familiar with how to deal with any associated risks. So hopefully you know what you're doing, because you're on your own in that regard.

Keep in mind you'll have to swap out the cooler, power supply, and motherboard if you want to overclock it since it's an OEM machine. Which will likely run you another $250.
