Hi Folks!

I'm looking into get a cheap computer to play some roms, preferably ps2 & and of course dolphin/GC.

From my initial reading I will need a good cpu with as many ghz as i can get and from what most people suggest a nvidia 98000gt graphics card.

Luckily i have all things like keyboard and monitor and a game pad i could use but want to get a cheap desktop.

Whilst on evil bay I noticed typing in Gaming Pc brings up some interesting results for £100-150.

So I wondered what you guys thought of the links below i.e could i effectively buy both and run dolphin with no probs buying the graphics card separate and adding to the desktop?

gfx's

desktops

I'll probably pick up some ram separate too.

If not could you mabye suggest some some cheap alternative, im not very good at matching up cpu's and gfx cards so apologies in advance!!

Also does anyone sell pre made ones for emulators as may look to buy one if cheap enough.

Many Thanks

All of those desktops are horrible and aren't capable of running any games at full speed. You're not even close yet with that hardware.

The recommended CPU is an Intel i5-2500k or better, depending on the games you want to play.

My AMD fx 6100 has yet to meet a game (without serious compatibilty issues with the emulator itself) it can't play on 2x resolution at full frames. You might wanna also look at the new 650 TI boost coming out, I got mine ordered but it seems like a killer budget card from the specs. As far as computers go, never buy a pre made one. It's going to be cheapest to either buy from a place like ibuypower where you can choose all the individual pieces, or buy the pieces yourself and build it.

Also just because an ebay listing says it's a gaming computer, it isn't. I don't think you could get one for emulating ps2 or gc/wii under $500 without some seriously good sales.
the only FX 6100 i saw that did well would be the one on the PCSX2 forums he got his up to 5ghz. and even then it barley scratched 60 with the benchmark that they do.

amd isnt that great in high end emulation sadly.

He must of had a real shit configuration or system then. I can play any pcsx2 game in 3x native res at max framerate with my fx 6100 at 4.5ghz and a 630 GT. Or it was overclocked incorrectly. I can get mine up to 5ghz too but the performance decreases a ton because it's not stable.

no this is the CPU benchmark thread they have. Which uses a really old revision of pcsx2 so basically you need a beast cpu to do it.

u mustve not read that part. Tongue

heres the thread i was talking about

The first graphic card is the famous "fake Nvidia 9800GT". It's actually a Radeon card (4300 or sth , i can't remember)

With a Pentium 4 , Pentium D ? NO
The Core 2 duo is the fastest of all desktop you listed but the clock speed is too slow
@Zeikai

Both the dolphin and pcsx2 communities have established that the FX chips perform poorly compared to other modern architectures with their respective emulators via public benchmarks. If you haven't encountered any slowdowns with your FX 6100 yet it is because you have used fast settings and/or fast games.
