How can I tell if my drive would work? Or is putting in a Wii disc the only way to find out??

If you don't know ... then it can't read GD-roms.

maybe Im in the wrong section but I could really use some help. Im using a Toshiba 2Duo T6500 @2.1Ghz 2.1Ghz and just can't get a picture to show. The Emulator is working but I can't see a thing.

when i put the disc into the drive it returns a message that says "you may have a faulty drive" or something similar. is there any other software that works?
Well, I can say that the Plextor PX-880SA does not work...
Ladies and Gentlemen, after reading the "Read Me" file from RawDump 2.1, I have a drive that works!!
Born in 2001, this gem is a GDR8163B, by Hitachi.
And all my old stuff is just a pile of JUNK!!
Ya' right! AND later on, monkeys might fly outta' my butt!
I have another GCE Hitachi, and I will test it later.
Just to help everyone out who may read this, apparently your best bet is to have a drive from around 2001. Newer drives apparently don't have it in their firmware to pull off reading a GameCube disc.
If I have drives available, I will post them...

Your software is not the problem. Your hardware is most likely the issue.
What drive are you attempting to use?
In fact, you just need a software called wii backup manager...
I couldn't rip dual layer games, though... maybe someone will have better luck with that
Hey I'm using an LG GDR 8164B disc drive and when I insert a wii disc (SSBB), my computer blue-screens. If I insert a regular disc, it works fine. Does anyone know why this is happening? Possibly because the disc is dual-layered?
Hey when you dump the games does it erase them off the disc?

No, the drive isn't even capable of doing this.
