I purchased a GDR-8082N from Amazon and am having some trouble getting it to work. Windows' Device Manager gives "This device cannot start". How do I fix this? It seems like this drive is plug and play for everyone else but I have had nothing but trouble from it so far.
Are you using Rawdump or Friidump? These dumpers are very picky, and once you get an error during dumping, you will have to either remove the disc and reconnect the drive or do that and also restart your PC to clear the problem. I've only dumped discs on XP; I'm not sure if Windows 7 is better or worse.

I've tried Rawdump on XP but both Friidump and Rawdump on 7. I've had so much unexpected behaviour from Rawdump that it's not even worth listing it all here for troubleshooting purposes. Once I try in a more systematic manner I can report exactly what goes wrong if there is a consistent failing pattern.
Would it be safe to say that the best approach once a dump fails is to:
1. remove the disc and disconnect the drive
2. restart the PC
3. plug in the drive and put in the disc
4. attempt dump again
or is some other approach more likely to work?
