The Optiarc DVD RW AD-7203A is on the list of working drives so that Sony drive should work...
I'm not saying mine should work aswell as it is a different one, but apparently atleast 1 Sony drive works.

That modifying firmware is a herkulian task I know and I'm not asking for someone to do it, merely whether it would be possible or not.

And yea who wouldn't want it to work? I could just buy one of the drives for a few bucks but that wouldn't be as much fun.

I believe my dvd drive works as well but i cant access the details of what my CD drive brand

oops lol mines a phillip drive DVD+-RW SDVD8820 i havent gotten to the point to duming it because for some reason i cant dump since i need .net framework 2.0 o.o but i have .net framework 4 (im running on a win XP sp 3) but it does regconize it as a CD

Works with friidump, but not RawDump.

I'm glad to have found a SATA drive that works for this, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it's 2013.

Hmm... The first time I opened it, it was fine, but now I keep on getting a corruption message.
I don't have any Anti-virus software that wasn't open before I had problems.

Does anyone know how I can check the type of disc drive on mine?

On windows 7, simply goto my computer, right click the disk drive, goto properties and look under the hardware tab.
