Sorry to double post (I don't know how to edit posts) but it looks like my laptop CD drive doesn't work either!

That's not very surprising, *few* devices work. The chance you randomly have one is close to zero. You can buy one for like five bucks, tough. I have about, don't know, more than five random computers around here, and none of them worked.

Better check what interface it has though; old drives have PATA interface, but new PCs have SATA.
Nope, most of the "supported" ones are IDE if I remember correctly.

OK, I'm not a hardware person so I'd better avoid the terminology Confused

Anyway, I've got a used LG GDR-8164B (which I think is supported) in front of me, and there's no way to plug it into my new Acer desktop (internal or external). Buying an adapter adds to the cost, and I was just trying to warn others so they can avoid the same disappointment.

ATA and IDE mean the same, one being the data format and the other one the plug.

Well, I have both an old desktop mainboard and an IDE-to-USB adaptor here already, so I didn't think about that. But yeah, you either need an old computer or an adaptor (which is useful anyway, because it also allows you to turn every internal into an external hard disk).
Does the OP even get updated?

TSSTcorp CDDVDRW SH-222AL (SATA) doesn't work.

I've got an old Sony Optiarc IDE drive lying around but, alas, I am too lazy to test it.

OP is only really updated with working drives, since nearly all don't work. I highly recommend you test that Optiarc, I recall that some Optiarcs actually have worked.

HELP, Please!!!
I am a noob Mom, trying to have Dolphin working on a iMac since I could not figure out how to connect the wii console to the computer... currently, no TV at home (due to a lack of space) and trying to run Dolphin so my daughter can play her original wii games and give me some peace... anyway...
1. Dolphin downloaded and installed
2. wiimotes recognized by the computer USB and Dolphin
3. Problem, the computer does not recognize the wii game discs... after spending hours reading the threads and doing some Google research, I understand that I need to make a copy of my original CD but I am still not able to figure how to make it using a Mac computer...Huh
