I'll answer all those questions tomorrow. I did answer this one:
NaturalViolence Wrote:Hime?
When I said "I meant home user".

I currently do not have a computer. My parents have laptops but I am not allowed to use them. So while you think
I'm a noob put that into consideration. I actually know a lot for someone who doesn't have a computer. This is also a reason why I want one so bad. I already own a Logitech F310, NES pc gamepad, and Star Wars Battlefront. It sucks that I can't use them. My brother is now emulating on his Kindle and I know so much more than him and I still can't. (Sometimes at school I stealthily play Pokémon from my flash drive with visual boy advance)

Off topic: How many posts do I need to get to a senior member, and then to 7 stars like yourself?

So you operate entirely off of a smartphone then? Or an ipod touch maybe?

I haven't heard anyone use that word in a long time. It has always been a dumb word in my opinion (poorly defined and useless). But you brought it up so I guess I have to talk about it now. Oh brother. Here we go.
1. I have never called you a noob or anything similar
2. There is a difference between a "noob" and a "newb". If I was forced to put you into one category it would be the latter. See below for further elaboration.
3. Please stop making excuses for stuff like this. I really don't care.
4. Since you have now implied that you think I hold this opinion of you then clearly you must have at some point said something either incorrect (and then I proceeded to correct you) or showed a lack of knowledge within a particular subject knowledge. If it was the former then you have no excuse since you should always try to be sure of things before you post them. Not having a computer doesn't change this. If it was the latter then could have looked it up on whatever internet enabled device you have.
5. Since you haven't pointed out any specific example of what led you to believe this I don't really know if it had anything to do with traditional PCs.
6. Actually come to think of it you haven't mentioned a subject at all. Which would imply that your referring to general knowledge. I think you're referring to knowledge about PCs though because why else would you bring up the lack of a PC as being a severe disadvantage.
7. You do have a computer. Whatever device you're using to post here is a computer.

Also if you haven't had a PC until now how have you been running dolphin? Or have you never used dolphin before? If that is the case then why did you start lurking/posting here?

Quote:Contrary to the belief of many, a noob/n00b and a newbie/newb are not the same thing. Newbs are those who are new to some task* and are very beginner at it, possibly a little overconfident about it, but they are willing to learn and fix their errors to move out of that stage. Noobs, on the other hand, know little and have no will to learn any more. They expect people to do the work for them and then expect to get praised about it, and make up a unique species of their own.

Too bad the online multiplayer in that game is probably completely dead by now. I'm assuming that you're referring to the PC version. How did you acquire it if you don't have a PC?

No idea. I've never paid any attention to it.
NaturalViolence Wrote:So you operate entirely off of a smartphone then? Or an ipod touch maybe?

Yeah I'm using an iPod Touch for everything electronic. When I said that I'm not allowed to use my parents computers, I meant for off task use. I can sometimes use them for homework.

I have used it a few times on my dad's laptop. I came here to ask what kind of computer I needed to run Dolphin and learn more about it. The GameCube is my favorite console, and my main purpose in getting a laptop for me is to emulate. I've seen just about every YouTube video that has to do with Dolphin, read every sticky thread here, and I feel that I can help contribute here.

It actually might still have online since it is the 2009 re-release. It was $10 at Staples and I convinced my mom so that when I got my computer I could have a game immediately.
Still waiting on this one:
NaturalViolence Wrote:Also to increase from 300 transactions per month ($30) to 4000 transactions per month ($400) would be about a 1,200% increase in transactions. So how exactly would that happen?

IlovetheGamecube Wrote:It actually might still have online since it is the 2009 re-release.

Re-release? I've followed the battlefront franchise intensely since the beginning and I've never heard of any battlefront re-release. I can't find anything via a google search either. It was released on windows in 2004.

And since I have the steam version I can assure that the community is in fact dead.
My mom said that it could happen since they just got a new website and people are signing up more.

I might take a picture and show you. The one I have is from 2009. It uses some program (I'll fid it later) for online and I'm pretty sure it still works. It says something on the back like "redistributed by Cosco" but I'm not sure if that is the name of the company. I'll check later.

1,200%!?!?

That's a pretty ridiculous increase to happen in only a couple of months. How long have they had this business?

IlovetheGamecube Wrote:It uses some program (I'll fid it later) for online and I'm pretty sure it still works.

Gamespy. Which is shutting down soon. It was used by a lot of online games from the 2000-2004 time period.

IlovetheGamecube Wrote:It says something on the back like "redistributed by Cosco" but I'm not sure if that is the name of the company. I'll check later.

Cosco is a wholesale retailer. In other words it's the store that you bought the game from. It doesn't matter where you bought it from it should be the same game.
They have been in business since July.
Well since it's that new I suppose it could happen. But don't count on it. Assuming a more rapid growth curve due to the upcoming website you might be able to get to 699 in a lot less than 11 months. Either get a low end laptop now that won't run dolphin very well or save up for a much better laptop later in the year that will run dolphin (and PC games) much better. Personally I would go for the latter but then again I haven't had to go a long time without a computer since childhood. And back then I didn't know what I was missing out on. You will still be able to do N64/PS1 emulation (and lower) as well as run older PC games well (like battlefront for example) on a low end laptop.
Do you recommend any low end laptops? Somewhere in the price range of $199 to $349. Whichever is going to run PC games from 2005 and below, Minecraft, be able to play Dolphin somewhat, and be good for watching movies? I mean buying a $300 laptop will only put me a few months back, and then I could get a really good laptop or a desktop maybe.
If you haven't been able to figure it out by now I'm not really a laptop kind of guy. The only laptops I have are those that clients give me for free. Sometimes friends give me broken laptops that they don't want anymore. So I fix them up and keep them. These laptops tend to be quite outdated and nothing special though. So to summarize I don't have a lot of direct experience with expensive and/or recent laptops. Just what I read. I think admin89 has basically become our residential "laptop expert" at this point (or at least the most active of them).

You can't get much for $200-350 unless you buy used laptops. And even with used laptops it's a stretch. PC games from 2005 and earlier and movies require nothing more than integrated graphics to run well so virtually any laptop should fill your needs there. Minecraft is also quite lightweight unless you use crazy settings (mainly draw distance) and shader/texture mods. Dolphin requires a powerful cpu and gpu though which is virtually impossible to get from a cheap laptop.

I agree with your idea of buying a cheap laptop now as a temporary solution then upgrading later on when you have more money. Come to think of it it's probably what I would do if I were in your situation.

SSDs are out of the question in that price range.
Blu-ray drives/burners are out of the question in that price range.
Discrete GPUs are mostly out of the question in that price range.
Screens are usually 1366 x 768 (720p) LED TFT in that price range. Anything more than that is out of the question in that price range.
As far as cpu/gpus are concerned you're usually either restricted to trinity APUs or core i3 (maybe a low end i5) cpus in that price range. The Intel cpus have better cpu performance but a weaker IGP (GPU). AMD cpus have weaker cpu performance but a stronger IGP (GPU). Both have a clear weakness that hurts performance in PC games and emulators. I would probably have to recommend trinity for PC gaming but for emulation it's not quite so clear which to choose. Also this is in general. The exact choices will obviously vary based on exact price and model. For example trinity IGPs are not always faster than Intel IGPs, just usually.

Hopefully admin will come here and offer recommendations on specific models. All I can give is general advice since I almost never buy laptops.
