Alright thanks, looking at the benchmarks it seems that I would be able to run games(7660G) like borderlands 1/2,mw3,black ops 2,torchlight,etc......

Emulators would just be a bonus for me,I can live without them though. 7660G or i3 3120M/3130m should do fine. HD 4000 seems to make games unplayable, dropping to under 30 frames.

Which would you suggest?

8gig of ram seems a bit much, but then again I get more hard drive space on the AMD one.
(1) i3 3120M / Intel HD 4000
(2) AMD 4600M / 7660G

If you choose (1) :
_You can still play PC game
_Most Wii/GC/PS2 games will run fine with minimum settings
If you choose (2)
_PC games will run a bit faster on AMD 7660G but not as good as a dedicated GPU such as Nvidia GT 630M / 640M / 650M , AMD 7670M / 7730M ...
_Most Wii/GC/PS2 games will not run well , even if you use minimum settings
Damn if only the intel one could get at least 30fps on borderlands 2.
It also seems to run battlefield 3 and MOH warfighter really bad aswell.
Either one would serve me well as a school/home laptop.

I might lean towards the AMD one.I know I need a better CPU for emulators(I3).

Unless I'm missing something? Can game on the 4000 get faster?
I don't need the fastest/raw power laptop for now.

One more thing.
I heard that the older AMD A6 or A8 was much faster than the current one.
It seemed to have more raw power unlike the A10 does now.

Yes but the i3 3120M still win by a large margin and the older APU's (Llano A6/A8 3xxxM) GPU is slower than current APU's ( Trinity A6/A8/A10 4xxxM) GPU
And please note that trinity A6 is not a true dual core CPU & A8/A10 are not true Quad Core CPU . That's why Trinity lag behind a dual core CPU such as i3 370M and even slower than their previous gen Llano clock for clock

Best advice : Increase your budget to 600$ and buy a laptop that has i5 3210M + dedicated GPU
Thanks for all the help.
It is about time I get something better than my HP A6009n Desktop.
It is now going on 6 years old and it still runs all the applications I throw at it.(except games)
Photoshop seems to work really well. Some would say it was too weak to run it well.

Is the A10 a worthy upgrade? As long as it does everything better.

It gets a 992 passmark
The AMD and intel get over 3000,will this translate to everything being at least twice as fast.
If you want to compare both CPU , please do :
_For Dolphin : Cinebench R10 single threaded benchmark
_For PCSX2 or any application that support more than 3 cores : Cinebench R10 multi threaded benchmark
Passmark is bullsh*t
This seems to have the numbers here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Trinity-in-Review-AMD-A10-4600M-APU.74852.0.html

I should just test my PC and compare the numbers.

might be wrong, but this is what I got.
32bit

single:1670
single:2098(A10)

multi:3254
multi:5812(A10)

Also it is higher better,it seem on 64bit it goes up a bit.
Since you're using Windows 7 x86 , please compare Cinebench 32bit version
Btw , you can join Dolphin Benchmark after you buy new laptop(The benchmark result is in Post #137 - Page 14)
I will get my PC single and multi scores, most likely tomorrow.
But it's still hard to calculate performance in Dolphin
Nvidia GeForce 6150SE is really terrible and it does not meet Dolphin GPU requirement
