Does it have a "no GT 610M" version ?So you can get it cheaper . Seriously , the integrated Intel HD 4000 of that i7 is even faster than GT 610M !
I don't know if Lenono is retard or not
If he's using CS6 I would highly advise an nvidia gpu even if that is true.

Don't do that. Get a good laptop. But don't play games like SMG

I don't know what happened, but the Acer laptop deal is back and since I couldn't find any laptop at the same price range with similar characteristics I think I'm going for it. You guys are telling me I won't be able to play Mario Galaxy 2. Ok, then what can I play? Do you have a list of the least-demanding Wii games or something? I guess that 2D stuff like Super Paper Mario, Kirby, Murama, Donkey Kong and others are gonna be more than playable, right? Also, could it play the majority of GC games?
Thanks!
You can play most Wii / GC games if you keep the CPU turbo boost 3.0GHz+ and the dedicated GPU must be used
If your laptop not overheat , Turbo Boost will do its job

Tell us what you'd like to play and we'll tell you if it's possible.

Right but not necessarily. For example you'll get difficulties with Donkey Kong Country Returns.

A lot of GC games are very demanding. Much more than some Wii games. Once more it depends on which games you plan to play
It's funny how the title of the thread started with the word "quick" and here I am, 10 days later, still looking for a laptop. I've ultimately come down to (again) two alternatives:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Series-NP350V5C-T01US-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B0098O6CMO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-571G-9686-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B009JXK23O/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
The first one is the Acer I've always been looking into and the second one came to my attention recently since It's like the very same computer except that it has a slighlty better CPU, but a weaker GPU (not by much anyway)... and it costs almost the same, too!
I'm really confused about which one to buy. I've seen people commenting that Acer has a bad reputation when it comes to the build quality, so there's that...

It would be really helpfull if you guys could take a look at the GPUs and tell me the major differnces. On the link above you can see that the nVidia 640M is ranked at #89, while the Radeon 7730M is at #90. There are a bunch of comparisons on parameters like "pixel shaders" or "core speed", but I don't really know what they mean.
So, I have two big questions here:
Why does the 7730M has those "-" between the numbers?. For example, on "Core Speed" the GT 640M has "625", but the 7730M has "575 - 675". I mean, if you only count the bigger number, then the HD 7730M is widely superior to the 640M... and then comes my second question: if my assumption is correct,
then why does it have a lower score in every 3DMark test?
Is it because of the 640M having so many benchmarks while the 7730M only has one per test? (you can see the ammount of benchmarks by putting the mouse over the score). Is this because of the "architecture" of the GPUs?
Sorry for the wall-o-text, but, you know, I don't have much money and I would appreciate getting the best computer possible for $700.

Quick = "I don't want to do any research or think things through and will instead blindly accept the first suggestion made".
Quick is bad. It should take you at least a week to make up your mind. Once you spend the money you're not going to want to bother trying to return it.

Depends on the model. They have the misfortune of being one of the companies that tries to make low cost laptops which helps earn them that reputation. But generally compared to some other companies, yes.

Well you haven't asked a specific question about any of them.

The - indicates a range. In this particular instance the manufacturer (AMD) has provided a range in which the GPU should be run by the OEM. It is up to the OEM to decide the final clock rate from within that range. In other words different laptops may have 7730M GPUs clocked at different speeds but they must always be within that range in order for the OEM to be allowed to list the GPU as a 7730M. Amazon likely didn't bother to look up the specs for that exact laptop and instead copy/pasted the specs for a 7730M.

I assume the "bigger number" that you're referring to is the clock rate? Well this assumption would only work if you were comparing two identical chips, which you are clearly not. These are two very different chips with different specs and microarchitectures.
The amazon page also fails to mention whether the laptop in question uses the DDR3 or GDDR5 version of the GT 640 M.
Yeah
Nvidia GT 640M GDDR5 = 3x Internal Resolution (1920x1584) in Dolphin
AMD 7730M & Nvidia GT 640M DDR3 = 2.5x IR (1600x1320)
Nvidia GT 640M GDDR5 is also superior in PC game

Which one is better for Wii and PC games.

So in the best case scenario, the HD 7730M is better, but there are also cases in which it could be worse. How am I supossed to know what kind of 7730M does this laptop have?

It has the DDR3 version, according to the site.
