<fakeHTMLtag type="post" responding="everybody">I have a h70 core but it won't fit into my case with a fan on. Realized after shoving on the cooler, struggling to fit it on, realizing I installed the mounting bracket wrong, smashing the motherboard several times (it still works, I'm typing on it now), and then trying to install the radiator. So disappointed! Is it OK to install fanless?
BTW, my Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H's PCH temperature is at 50-something degrees no matter what, according to EasyTune6, even hotter than CPU-at-idle. I'm somewhat worried about that, but which part of the mobo is the PCH?</fakeHTMLtag>
Where on earth did you get that html tag from?

Probably. But the unit will perform very poorly without a fan. OC is out of the question for sure.

The PCH (platform controller hub) is a single chip that replaces the northbirdge (memory hub) and southbridge (I/O hub) on systems with memory and pci-e controllers that are integrated into the cpu die. It is expected to run hot.
Will disabling the fourth core make the CPU run cooler?
Is it possible to disable the integrated gfx? Is it already disabled? If it's enabled, will disabling it make the CPU run cooler?
I want some room to OC slightly, because some games still don't quite run at full speed.

No, actually. See, a core that isn't being used won't heat up much, even if it's cranked up on turbo. Since Dolphin only uses 2 cores plus 1, the 4th core won't really be used anyway. Besides, disabling a core is stupid, you could just set it to a lower turbo rate than the others and get a similar effect without tossing a whole core. But again, pointless with Dolphin.
If you want to overclock, just stick to the basics. Overclock to a level that stays under 90C in a 30 minute Prime95 test, and make sure it can last the entire test without bluescreening. If you want to go to a higher overclock, get a better cooler so you can get more MHZ for the same temp. Simple as that, really.

Yes, no (if you had disabled it you wouldn't be asking), and sort of. It will warm your CPU a tiny bit if the HD4000 is being used, but with dolphin if you are using the integrated graphics the GPU cap on your performance would reduce the CPU load and reduce your thermals overall. As for turning it off, you can't "turn it off" like a lightswitch, but you can tell the motherboard use the PCIe x16 graphics primarily, and that will pretty much mean it will never be used again. If you have a decent video card, then
you will know if it's on or off.
You can actually disable the IGP in the BIOS, and it does have a measurable effect on power consumption. Although simply setting up your system to use a discrete GPU instead will have the same effect. On certain motherboards it can't even be enabled to begin with (as I'm sure you know).
As for disabling a fourth core. Sure it will reduce temps but only slightly because of the throttling that MaJoR talked about. I'm not sure I would answer that question with a definite "no" however.
Another reason not to disable the IGP is that in the event your regular GPU packs in, you have no way to use the PC, and no way to turn it back on again if you can't see the BIOS on a screen.
All modern motherboards are equipped with a method to reset the bios to factory defaults either via a jumper or button. So that's not a problem.
It also nice for removing peoples passwords when you steal their computer XD
The "I fucked something up button". One of my favorite inventions for sure.
