Depends on your system and setup. With a GT555M and a mobile Core i7, overclocking the GPU is the only way to play Zelda SS at nearly fullspeed in 1080p and 3xIR 16xAF.

I managed to get a pretty substantial speed bump by overclocking the GPU, about 10fps in most games where the GPU is the bottleneck. I can set the GPU clock to default and see the speeds plummet and then watch them shoot right back up again after restoring the overclock. For reasons I don't understand it doesn't seem to make any difference in Gamecube games at all, though.
Wii games generally require more cpu and gpu throughput since the Wii itself has a faster cpu/gpu. Not to mention they tend to be newer games so the engines are optimized to the bone to squeeze every last bit of throughput out of the hardware.
