Emulators for those consoles are likely to stay poorly threaded for a while after they're first started, and by that time there'll hopefully be a reasonable amount of 8 threaded consumer software Intel will want to support.
Ah, true that.

I had some problems with Mario Galaxy with my AMD CPU, thats correct. But it was.. kinda playable, i mean you CAN play it with a speed of 70~90%, but the question is, if you enjoy it.
Well i got bored from Mario galaxy at some point and maybe thats why i said every game.

Sorry for that but AMD can run almost every game. Better now? Tongue
Try 'extreme overclocked LN2 cooled AMD CPUs can run most games at playable (but not necessarily full) speed'.
RaZZZa Wrote:Well this is bull**** when you ask me, AMD can perform very good, even with Dolphin.

"Very good" is subjective. How good is very good?

Xalphenos Wrote:The only caveat being that maybe it should be "stop buying AMD processors."

Since a GPU is technically a microprocessor I will revise that even further to "stop buying AMD cpus".

There are a decent number of games that simply can't be run at fullspeed on any AMD cpu at any obtainable clock rate. Just from my own collection I have SMG, SMG2, the last story, okami, certain areas in the MP games, etc.

Regardless of this though Intels cpus run dolphin better than AMDs at every price point so there is really no reason to buy AMD cpus for a machine running dolphin, period. So I stand buy my advice.

Maybe there are a few games, which doesnt run perfect on AMD CPU´s but saying, AMD CPU´s arent worth buying, because Dolphin doesnt run too good on it, that would just say "Buy a 500€ machine to run a machine worth 100€ or less". Its not only Dolphin , AMD may be not as powerfull as Intel, but on most tasks, AMD can show Intel who´s boss (Not mentioning the overpriced Intel CPU´s, AMD´s high end CPU costs roughly 200€ now, so please dont say, a 300€ CPU from Intel is still better than AMD.

I could do almost everything with my old AMD CPU, im not a fanboy or something, but i had the CPU and it does pretty well, even Mario Galaxy was kinda playable, not on fullspeed, but it was enough.
We had this discussion before Tongue Déjà vu I guess Big Grin

Since that paragraph lacks any solid structure and flow of ideas and I'm not totally sure what points you're trying to raise with some of those sentences I'm just going to point out a few things in the hopes that will address whatever you're trying to say:
1. Dolphin runs faster on Intel cpus at every price point. A $100 Intel cpu will beat a $100 AMD cpu. A $150 Intel cpu will beat a $150 AMD cpu. A $200 Intel cpu will beat a $200 AMD cpu. And so on. I said this in my previous post so I don't know why you're ignoring it.
2. The OP of this thread is complaining about not getting the level of performance he wanted with dolphin. He asked what he could do to remedy this situation. I therefore gave him the advice that he should probably steer clear of AMD cpus in the future if he wants to avoid this happening to him again. Thereby implying that the only thing he could do to get better performance is to get better hardware. All of this is true.
3. Due to point #1 that I made if you purchase AMD cpus you are purchasing a product which is inferior for dolphin. So it's pretty obvious which one we recommend for running dolphin on these forums.
4. Spending $500 on hardware needed to emulate a $100 console as you put it is a reality that is unavoidable. I'm still not sure why you brought that up.
5. Yes Intels top of the line cpus are more expensive than AMDs top of the line cpus. But that doesn't matter. See point #1.
High-end AMD Desktop CPU 8150/8350 can run most games fullspeed except those very demanding games (power consumption for those CPUs are a bit ridiculous though)
However , High-end AMD Laptop CPU A10 4600M lag behind low-end first gen i3 370M even in multi-threaded benchmark (Note that A10 is a quad core CPU ,i3 is dual core CPU + Hyper Threading)
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html(Rank 127)
The OP has AMD trinity mobile A8 4500M which is too weak for most games

I dont ignore it, but i just said, that AMD CPU´s can outperform Intel CPU´s till the mark of 100€ (or $) is reached. Maybe not in Dolphin, but when you think about it, having a 100€($) CPU from AMD, which can run almost every game (or lets say around 95%, because all the little games are pretty much playable) with full speed is not a false statement. My Old AMD could run every game i played with full speed (List below) except Mario Galaxy, which was stuck at around 70~90%.

I agree, but when the enduser, who is buying the hardware, wants to do other stuff with the PC too, the statement with "stay away from AMD" is just completly wrong. I know this is a Forum for this emulator, but still, its just wrong. maybe its just me

I agree, but #2 of me maybe clears, what i want to say in a nutshell.

Because when he ONLY, and ONLY wants to emulate the Wii on his computer, just buy a console and do whatever to play your... *copys* on this console. But suggesting a machine worth 500€($) or more, just to emulate a console, which is worth 100€($) or less is not a very good suggestion. Its no secret, why almost every person who is downloading a emulator, dont has a console. And dont come with the "but an emulator has better graphics" statement. I belive in you with that statement... sure thing.
List of games, what my AMD Phenom II x4 @ 3.6GHz could run at playable speed:
Super Mario Kart Wii
Super Mario Kart Double Dash
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Fragile Dreams
Fatal Frame 4
Fatal Frame 2 Wii Edition
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Silent Hill Shattered Memorys
Resident Evil 4 (I didnt played till the end, but reached the castle)
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Mario Party (i think it was 8)
Harvest Moon Three of Silence (Transleted it from the german name, not sure if its the english name)
Just Dance
Wario Land The shake Dimension
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2

This is not true.

It's still inferior to Intels offerings for what the OP is trying to do. What is "good enough" to you is entirely subjective and quite frankly doesn't matter.

He asked what to do to improve his speed in dolphin. "Stay away from amd" is a perfectly reasonably response to that question.

Well we buy PCs for more than just that sure. But if one of the things somebody wants to do with their rig is run dolphin then our recommendation is obvious.

Quote:And dont come with the "but an emulator has better graphics" statement.

....why not? It's a legitimate advantage.
