Ok, last question: the default GPU on the computer is XFX Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5, but switching it with Gainward GeForce GTX 670 2GB PhysX CUDA will be marginally cheaper. which one should I pick? (I prefered Nvidia so far)
How about EVGA GTX 670 ?
EVGA is very good brand ! Overclock it abit -> you have GTX 680 performance (100USD for free)
I would go with the HD7970 simply because it's the faster card. It beats both the 670/680GTX easily, especially at higher resolutions.
I wouldn't go with the Gainward brand if you do want an NVIDIA GPU. The cheapest EVGA card is just 100 KJOP less than the HD7970.
Any of the decent brands and models for the 670GTX cost over 3000 KJOPs.

Also, XFX is a great brand and the HD7970 you selected has a great cooler on it. Go for it, I'd say.

The GHz edition maybe but not the regular edition.

Almost all of the benchmarks except crysis warhead were faster or the same on the GTX 680 even at 2560 x 1600.

The GHz edition fairs better: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/618?vs=555

It loses in some and wins in others. Generally though it seems to be based on the game not the resolution. I would say performance wise it is slightly better since most of the titles where nvidia wins are older dx9 titles.

@KHRZ

I think everyone here knows where I generally stand on nvidia vs. amd but whatever floats your boat. As far as a 7970 vs. GTX 670 goes it depends on the game. Most dx9 games run a bit faster on the 670, most dx10/11 games run a bit faster on the 7970. Just pick whichever brand you prefer.

Yeah, you're right, somehow I didn't notice the GHz in the benches I checked.
A normal 7970, as pointed out, performs closer to the 670GTX, but performs better at higher resolutions.
It depends on both the game and the resolution.
