Quote:Why would Crysis 3 be a shit game, dare I ask?
It's going back to the main idea behind the first Crysis; graphical innovation.
What's so bad about that?

Because video games are supposed to be....dare I say it....

While I must admit that first gif made me shit bricks I also watched the gameplay trailers on youtube and was not impressed by what I saw. It's the same dull stuff as the second. The AI charges blindly at you while you alternate between either killing them while invisible or killing them while nearly indestructible, which are basically the only two things that you can do. Then you walk forward down the straight line that their levels consist of and do it again and again and again. Every once and awhile you get a cutscene where you can't control the camera or your movements and get to watch people you don't care about do things that don't make any sense in some big action set piece. Then on to the next area.....to do it again. And you know you're about to encounter a cutscene when your weapons suddenly stop working. Can't have those players having control over anything, it could make the experience different from what our film director....I mean "lead writer" had in mind and that would be awful. I mean that just sounds too much like a video game. No we should just add more cutscenes and better graphics, that will make everything better.
/end rant
Ehh, sorry to hear that. I'm personally looking forward to it.
But yeah, don't play the Crysis games for the plot.
Its just a bunch of Sci-fi bullshit on the same level of competence or LOWER than the "writing" of Mac Walters.

But god...
Dem Grafix. Wink

EDIT: While I do miss the sandbox like gameplay of the first, I felt that the set pieces in Crysis 2 were very well done.
Also the invisible walls and other tactics of restricting player control in order to make level design and presentation easier helped kill whatever little immersion there was. Oh and I can't forget about the long walking sequences between objectives where I guess I'm supposed to be admiring the scenery. Except I fail to care because nothing interesting is going on in the scenery, nothing is interactive, and I can't really explore anything due to the way the level design is done. Just keep walking forward because you can't go anywhere else. There is nothing to do but walk to the next shooting gallery where I will do exactly the same thing I did last time.

I never played it for the plot. Far cry and crysis both had some good open world gameplay up until the second half which in both games consisted of "lol aliens lets suddenly make the levels linear and restricted and turn the enemies into identical bullet sponges that can only be killed by shooting at them over and over from cover" plus the sudden emphasis on cutscenes. Crytek apparently decided that it was the gameplay of this second half that almost everyone hated in the first two games that should be the entire focus of crysis 2s design. And now it looks like this has carried over into crysis 3.

I can forgive the lack of the SDK which the previous two games had for free at release even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive the lack of up to date dx support even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive the random low resolution textures and generally toned down art assets even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive the lack of settings even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive the online based DRM even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive the game treating me like an idiot for several hours while I easily abuse the mind numbingly dumb AI to easily get through max difficulty without any effort.
I can forgive the long and tedious unskippable tutorial level even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive all of the long and boring unskippable cutscenes even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive the multiplayer which was completely copy/pasted from CoD 4: MW (even down to using the exact same killstreaks) even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive the weird control mapping, UI, and save/load system even though it pissed me off.
I can forgive countless other things

But I cannot forgive lazy level and gameplay design under any circumstance. Give me something interesting to do god damnit!
Hey thanks for ruining my thread!

First of all why I love the games that I love is my business and my business only.
I don't give a damn what you think about it and I don't want to play Witcher 2 or some other game I'm not interested in.

ON-TOPIC:

I DELETED EVERY SAVE GAME MADE!

I also removed all emulators and my game dumps but I have all of them archived on Blu-Ray discs stashed away.
By the looks of it I'm putting the emulation days behind me indefinitely.

I woke up this morning with the biggest anxiety attack I've ever had and I don't think this was about my save games at all, but my interest for games in general.
That's what the real reboot is all about.

Crysis 3 is out in February, Luigi's Mansion 2 in March and PGA Tour 14 late March early April.
And that's it for me. It's time for me to do something else after that.

Maybe my interest comes back in a couple of years, maybe not. The future is unwritten til then.

Damn, I feel relieved.
I give him 2 months :p
