Game booted fine for me without that save file.

Wii language must be japanese or else you get black screen, and you need to unplug extension controllers or else you get stuck at a japanese message screen.

Tested on build 5.0 6981, D3D, all defaults

How do you play this in English?

I have the translation files, I can boot the game (Dolphin language set to Japanese).

Any info please?

Hello ! If you're still interested to play the game in English, I recently released a fan translation which you can try.

It can be both used with a retail disc (using Riivolution), or to patch an ISO (I provided a README in the zip file).
