Quote:Unfortunately this hasnt been the best gaming year for me, being in my final year in the university i spent very little time at home where my console is and the only games i played were on my PC or few friends who brought consoles to school which means i missed alot of major titles this year.

I cant wait for February so i can make up for lost time.

You didn't miss jack squat. In terms of good games that were released this year this is possibly the worst year I can remember.

Dang... I thought I'd have more than 3 games...

NV why do you always have to be right? I wouldn't say he missed jack squat though. There have been some great games released this year... other than the ones above... I think?
The best game I've played this year is Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Wins hands down, no contest. Wow what a game. Other good games I played this year are Metal Gear Solid 3 (yea yea late to the party), Skyward Sword, and Bastion. MGS3 has amazing sneaking/survival gameplay, but boring bosses. Like seriously, didn't Kojima check the speed that the first stage of rockets reach? Skyward Sword was rather dull for most of it, but the combat is just fun, and the last 6 hours or so is REALLY good, like classic zelda ocarina of time good. Shame it took so long to get the point though. Bastion's gameplay is a little simplistic, so it gets old pretty quickly, but the game is short and makes up for it with a fantastic ending.

Xenoblade Chronicles turned out to be a big disappointment for me. It just seems really grindy. Got to get X levels to pass Y areas. I'm very tired of grinds in RPGs; I was burned by it a long time ago with a Final Fantasy. Plus, the MMO inspired combat is not interesting enough to carry the game through that kind of grindfest. Oh well. I haven't beaten it, I'll pick it up and keep going through it later. Another big disappointment for me was Shadows of the Colossus. Sure it has fantastic music, and the gameplay is really interesting, but the game is more or less just a boss rush. Sure the bosses are cool to fight, but it's just... that's it.
The Walking Dead.
I seriously can't believe I forgot to add Tales of the Abyss 3D to my runner-ups. Even if it's just a port, I hadn't touched the original game for five years, so it felt refreshing (refreshing enough for 85+ hours on three playthroughs on my 3DS XD). I played this almost as much as Xenoblade Chronicles. Almost.

Yeah, I also beat MGS3 this year. I truly enjoyed the experience. The bosses weren't boring at all, they were decent bosses. "The End" was an amazing boss. I liked this battle more than the one with Sniper Wolf in MGS1.

It's not really grindy, but it can be. It depends on your playstyle. I didn't even have to consider grinding in my full playthrough. Simply do the most relevant quests and sidequests if you're interested and just enjoy the game. Don't pass your judgement on the game yet, beat it first. Depending on how far you are, there's still a lot for you in store. Smile

... That's not the games fault. The game clearly states that you'll only be fighting giants. You can't be disappointed about something that was never intended in this game.
Shadow of the Colossus, in my opinion, was an amazing game.

Wow, Tales of the Abyss for the... 3DS?!
Did they add anything new to it?
Does it even utilize the 3D capabilities? (I doubt it)
Don't all 3DS games use the 3D?

EA, why you no put Rory McCleroy on cover Dodgy
TotA 3D actually amazingly adds... nothing. It's a straight up port, no frills, no enhancements, nothing extra except the okay-ish 3D effect they added. If you have the game with PCSX2, you probably wouldn't want to play it on the 3DS unless you, like me, think it's just plain cool to play one of your favorite PS2 games on a portable device.

Even though it's exactly the same, I was glad to buy it again in a different format. The 3DS allows me to play it anywhere in my house, so I'm not just stuck in front of the TV or my computer. It's great to just lie back on my sofa, sipping soda and playing this game. Cool
