So for the first time ever I got to try Dolphin on an i7 CPU, specifically a ~3GHz Sandy Bridge i7-2640M (workstation laptop w/ quadro GPU). For the most part it could run F-Zero GX at 100% or at least close to it in the grand prix. However, since I've beaten the GP on Master back on my GameCube, I wanted something a little more... intense.

So I got a copy of the ICC-optimized r6515 x64 build, turned off audio throttle, turned on "Limit by FPS" and set it to 75. It worked quite well, but the difference over 60fps wasn't that much unless you were boosting.

Then I set it to 90fps.

Now I could only have around 5 AI machines in practice mode (set on Master) to hit such a speed, but in the few cases this 3GHz Sandy i7 actually hit 90fps (mainly half-way through the first Casino Palace track around the boost arrows), I swear my eyeballs were going to fly out of my eye sockets! It was that intense.

So the point is, any F-Zero GX fans out there with a 4.5+GHz Sandy/Ivy Bridge CPU NEEDS to try this, even better if your monitor can actually support 90hz. Be warned though, you HAVE to be very good at the game in order to not get slaughtered! And while I don't know if it would actually display 90fps per-eye, stereo 3D would be absolutely insane with this.

Now we just need a 240hz OLED 3D display for the ultimate F-Zero experience. Tongue

Heck, maybe some users could upload a video of a race or two at 150% speed? While the framerate would obviously be down sampled to 30fps on sites like YouTube, the speed increase would still be there.
Thanks for the hint, my i7-3615QM can handle F-Zero GX quite well with new git Dolphin revisions (about 40-60 FPS, depends on the course). But I haven't tried old revisions yet. Do you get any random crashes or graphical glitches?

btw: I've almost beaten F-Zero GX on my GameCube, only 2 Missions on "Very Hard" to go Cool The 60Hz modus + snaking is insane for me, about 2400km/h. It's nearly impossible to control the machine Tongue And if the game runs at even higher FPS... that would be absolutely crazy! I'll try this Big Grin
Both of you have "Dual Core" enabled , that's why
Default settings for F-Zero : Disable Dual Core -> Single Core mode to avoid crashing ingame -> Slow
I know, but the game runs fine with Dual Core on. I haven't had any crashes so far with newer git revisions Wink
Hashless branch will provide best results for F-Zero X since the slow vehicle select screen is fixed. Hopefully it will get merged to master soon after release of 3.5.
That's amazing! Just remember though that r6515 isn't supported anymore so if something happens you're on your own.
The only reason I used r6515 and "enable dual core" was purely to get the maximum performance possible. I mean, if you're playing at that speed then you've most likely already beaten the grand prix at some point, so any errors and crashing isn't really much of an issue.

If you are paranoid about stability, then I recommend dumping a copy of your GameCube memory card so that you won't have to unlock stuff. Heck I could even upload a copy of mine, but I technically haven't unlocked EVERYTHING (I'm missing some custom parts and AX racers).
Unfortunately I don't have the game nor am I interested in getting it but that doesn't make me any less impressed by the result.
It just felt appropriate giving a heads up when I saw you using that ancient build but I understand your intentions with using it completely.
The reason I commented on this from start was that people could start using that ancient build for all sorts of games thinking it's some kind of super build then just to realize all the things that are broken and come here complaining about it.

But hopefully that won't happen.
We are all experienced Dolphin users and we all know, that old builds can cause problems and are unsupported.

We just want to have fun and test out things Big Grin
You'd be amazed how many ignorant people there really are out there that don't know squat about Dolphin and the different kind of builds that exists (both official and unofficial builds)
Sometimes ignorant people just take the first build they can find from any site and then expecting to get support here when hell start breaking out.
So no, not everyone knows that old builds can cause problems and are unsupported and most people doesn't even know of the "Old Dolphin builds" policy in the http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Announceme...piracy-ban thread.

My intention was not to ruin this thread, you are of course free to do as you please.
