If you're using 5.0, please update to a development version. Wiimotes are disabled on netplay in 5.0.
What was the last version this worked on at all? 4.0.2 gets stuck on the screen with the wiimote not connected error, but I'm just getting stuck on game start with black screens with 5.0 1777:

I've had some luck with the most recent stable build strangely enough considering the wiimote fix is not included in that one. If the host chooses an emulated wiimote while those connecting choose none it seems to work a bit. Remember to assign the wiimote 1 to the host in the assign controllers section of the netplay window. This worked for me for a little while but once I started messing a bit more with config files it stopped cooperating. Let me know if it works for you.

Honestly the wiimote stuff is very confusing to me as well. If anyone comes across a definite fix please let us know! Not only for this game but for all games that require a wiimote.
Any other ways to get past the "Wiimote 1 has disconnected"?
Yes I finally got this game working 100%. I'll write a guide for you when I get home later tonight.
Don't bother writing a guide. Wii Remote Netplay has complications beyond what our puny minds can understand.

I'm working on having some of those problems fixed. Garbage data in certain INI files can even cause the freeze/desync you're tlaking about.

Maybe so but I have at least gotten Dokapon to work smoothly so I would like to share.  This will allow people to play the game with a gamecube controller, keyboard, or pretty much anything else besides Wiimotes.

You need a dev build because Dolphin 5.0 has wiimotes on netplay disabled. I opted for pull request 4546 because it enabled wii saves which have also been previously disabled.

In terms of setup, everyone needs to disable dual core in the config menu but also in the Dokapon properties menu (right click the game).  Have the host enable Wiimote 1 and clear all inputs for it. Assign the A button to spacebar or something on your keyboard.  Everyone else should have all Wiimotes disabled. I know that sounds strange but it works.  Once you get into the Netplay window, make sure to assign Wiimote 1 to the host and enable saves on the bottom of the window.  Start up your game and everything should be good to go.

Hope I could help!
Those aren't enough steps to really help anyone get in-game. You don't seem to understand how touchy it is. If you enable free-look, you can get desyncs, if the Wii remotes aren't configured with the same attachments on all computers, it will freeze on boot, if the Wii remote disconnects and you hit a button, the game will freeze or desync. If you configure the Wii remotes in certain combinations the game will freeze on boot.

Disabling Dualcore in both menus is also pointless misinformation. Host disables it, then it will be disabled for everyone else.
Believe me I'm not claiming to really understand this stuff. This is just what seems to work. I'm sure you know plenty more about the inner working of Dolphin than me but this is at least a temporary solution to the wiimote issue. I apologize if some of what I said was redundant but I'm just trying to help those that just wanted to play the game with their friends. I recognize that the wiimote functionality on netplay is pretty busted but this method is just to get past that. This method has worked very well for me and my friends with no desyncs but I'm sure messing with the settings you mentioned would cause some.
Thanks kidkilla. That works well enough. We just set it up with Gamecube controllers and only host with Wiimote, dualcore disabled then every player just uses a gamecube controller as the game supports them. It just forces you to have a wiimote plugged in for the boot screen for some dumb reason. If it breaks bad as JMC47 said it matter less since ingame you never use it past the stupid intro. We're not enabling free-look, using any attachments, if the Wii remote disconnects we're not using it anyways. I expect it'll probably bug out at some point, but I'm not going to whine about obviously broken features in the unstable builds.

Looking forward to any fixes though!
