Best choice: 3570k.
Alternatives: 3770k/2500k/2600k

Not possible. You'll get speed drops even with the best processor. Above all with TLS
Core i5-3570k Cool

Overclock it to 4.2GHz or more (for The Last Story, you sould overclock to 4.5GHz). You won't have performance problems, but note, that NO CPU can handle ALL games @ fullspeed ALL the time. (you will encounter FPS drops though)

I am playing monter hunter and donkey kong using MSAA = 7 and the internal resolution is 4x native 2560x2112 at full speed
The problem with some games seems to be the processor, if I change MSAA and internal resolution to the lowest the fps will be the same

would't be better 3770k overclocked at 4.5ghz?

then I think it doesn't worth the upgrade. I think dolphin needs some improvements or even better hacks for specific games, like PCSX2 does, that ps2 emulator makes a lot of hack for specific games, zelda twighlight needs a hack for disable minimap and fix Ilia's scent issue, but seems the dolphin developers is not caring about

hacks for speed improvements.

AMD FX-8350 $219 USD
Benchmark: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=ar...ver2&num=4
I'm not sure if you able to run all of your games in full speed in Dolphin but in price comparison this processor is a great choice.
LOL... AMD FX aka Faildozer Big Grin

@killown: Don't read his post, the core i5-3570k is much better. Anyway, get the core i5-3570k. The i7-3770k has HyperThreading and Dolphin won't benefit from it.

That just means that your GPU isnt bottlenecking the CPU in anyway, why is that a problem?

Yes, but other factors come into play like power supply and temperature.

The emulator will most likely get slower as newer revisions come out, hacks can speed stuff but they do so by breaking other stuff, your best bet is to just get the most powerful piece of hardware available or just buy a wii.

Whatever you say! Shy
Dolphin uses 2 cores + 1 (LLE on thread)
Starcraft 2 uses 2 cores as well
You should look at SC2 benchmark or single threaded benchmark when it come to Dolphin

Piledriver , not bulldozer
I5 3470 beat all piledriver CPU by a mile (Dolphin only) and it's much cheaper

When you pair i5 3470 with Asrock Z77 mobo (Pro 3 , Pro 4 , Extreme 3 , Extreme 4 , Extreme 6) , you can overclock non "k" - i5 3470 to 3.9GHz

i5 3570k is also cheaper than FX-8350 (170$ vs 200$) , i7 3770k cost 230$
i5 3570k and i7 3770k have the same performance on Dolphin , i5 3570k (stock speed) blow FX-8350 away from earth and it can be overclocked to 4.4GHz or higher
FX-8350 is a good choice for multi-threaded apps or video encoding . Not so good for gaming

I need atleast 95% of emulation speed, if this 3570k can bring that for any game then I will go for it

My power supply is TX950w, then it's fine
But don't forget to buy a very good CPU cooler and thermal compound. Overclocking to 4.5GHz or beyond requires a very good cooling system in your PC case.

And also be sure to buy a good Z77 MoBo Tongue
