You're right on the desktop part and i was not talking about desktop (The OP used a laptop right ?) . When you plug a graphic card in your desktop , the graphic card will be used , not the integrated one (except AMD APU which can do crossfire) .
However , Laptop with Nvidia Optimus are the opposite . You can force a certain game using a dedicated GPU but you can't use dedicated GPU all the time .
I have a laptop with Nvidia Optimus , i know what i'm saying . There is no way to disable integrated GPU completely , you're only able to adjust which GPU will be used via Nvidia Control Panel

Yeah I thought only nvidia optimus cant be disabled.
In that case, op should update both nvidia and intel drivers to the latest,just to be sure that optimus is functionating properly
Not only Nvidia Optimus but also AMD Switchable Graphics . Well , i don't have AMD laptop , i'm not so sure
