Well its claimed that the stable is well tested. Whether there is truth in that I can not say. I tend to agree even a 4.0 esthetic property has merit. Its kind of like a badge of completion. Besides in development a major upgrade ( x+1.xx ) from (x.xx) means something significant. I dont see why Dolphin would not follow suite. lamedude pointed out the a minor release (3.x) to (3.x+1) and no that is nothing to go crazy over.
We all have different views of things, for me a new release is exactly the thing to go crazy about

I favor stable official releases (even minor releases) over development versions.
I know I'm weird..
Fwiw, Duke just gets easily excited about these things
Anyway, I'm anticipating the next stable release. Like I said, I'm writing a document that needs an up to date version of Dolphin, but the GIT releases are moving targets essentially, so I'm frequently updating various sections all over again. 3.0 is too old to use for my purposes since the next official release would require a massive rewrite when it comes out.
Name it 3.5 if you guys feel the next stable release will be out in a year or so, 3.9 if 4.0 is just around the corner. I don't think versioning is arbitrary; it should reflect the developers' estimate of progress but it should also give users hints about how relatively far along the project is until the next release if it's not a X.0 build. 3.9 seems like there's just a little left to do in order to reach 4.0, that's the message it sends to me. A lot of (clueless) people might start to get impatient for 4.0; that already happens, but having a stable release at 3.9 might just make it worse :p
Crosses fingers for a weekend release

December 21st: end of the world. Gotta hurry up

I really hope they don't do 3.5 or 3.9. It would confuse the poor wiki.

Not really. Currently we have 3.0, 3.0-1XX, 3.0-8XX, etc. With 3.1 (or 3.5, 3.9) we would have 3.1, 3.1-1XX, etc

What exactly is it that you mean by what you just said here? You want them to name it 4.0 instead or don't want a new release at all because it would confuse the Wiki or what?

Hmm. I suppose you are right. If we treat it like a hard reset it should, hopefully, work ok. Still, we said that about the git migration. And we still have problems from that. I'll show you.

The version compatibility bar goes from 2.0 to 3.0. 3.0 has now been out for several months more than 2.0 and have way way way more recorded commits, so one would assume that 3.0 and it's releases should take up half the bar or more. Check it out: it only takes up about a quarter. It's because of how the revisions treat things. To the wiki 2300 (r5350 to r7620-ish) is greater than 800, so it's pretty simple, and there isn't really anything that can be done about it. This is just one of several problems that the wiki still has left over from the last release change that we haven't figured out yet. Hopefully this time it will be alot smoother, since it's all still git.
