Yeah well it's not important but it feels like a hint that a new release is coming real soon don't you think.

Yeah a dev (I don't remember which one) said recently : "latest builds are not far from what 4.0 will be". So I guess 4.0 should be here soon
4.0 might not be necessarily close, but dolphin-next (whatever number that is) will be.
Fyi, we already though about naming the release something like 3.NoZComploc or 3.NoFastMips, but decided to got with a traditional versioning scheme :p

I think that 4.0 is appropriate, its been almost one year and a half since 3.0 came out and there has been a tremendous amount of work into it since.
Plus 4.0 sounds all new and hype.
Still, there's no need to rush it before Christmas, yes it would be awesome but I prefer having a fully tested and stable release than having a version that could obtain more benefits from being worked on a bit longer.
When I think about 4.0 I think about the Guild Wars 2 devs when they were talking about the release date: ''It'll be ready when it'll be ready.''
My guess is that they're gonna release a new version pretty soon that's gonna be under the 3.x version number and postpone the 4.0 version until the AX HLE is finished or something.
But it's only my guess.

Not only AX HLE: Wii network and Wii USB are both near completion as well.
