Are there any fixes towards the 'extremely slow intro?'
Also, When I try to run the game in Dolphin(4.0-5396) I just get a grey window, as if the game hasn't progressed.(I left running for 8+ mins and didn't progress past that.)
I can only get the screen to appear when no controllers are connected while the game has been started and then it is reconnected afterwards.

Try a more recent version of Dolphin. In June, the pre-defined settings for this game were updated to work around an issue that prevented the game from starting.

Testing with Dolphin 5.0-5406 it just hangs at the Wii remote information screen. What was the last working version?
yeah, this takes forever (if it actually continues at any time at all). Maybe it could be possible to make a cheat code to kinda skip past the wiimote screen? By one of the 60FPS wizards around here?

So, JMC and I have gone back and forth on this. I notice significant load time improvements when I lower the resolution (using emulated controls). My assumption is whatever timing is done for the Wiimote (that isn't there in emulated logic) is causing excessive XFB copies to be sent (where resolution would matter). But I haven't really investigated it much.
In my case it's with a real wiimote...
