Is Resident Evil 4 supposed to slow down in certain areas? The game was running smoothly, but I finished the section after the fight with the giant fish in the lake. You wake up in a house and walk towards a narrow path between two large hills. The walk up to the door, I notice a framerate drop in the low 20s. Then, I go through the door and you meet the first villager who turns into a crazy monster with the wacky head and the game runs at a solid 20fps and feels super slow.

I turned off the AA and ran the game at native resolution, but it still slowed down here. Is this normal? I was checking my CPU usage, and it didn't go past 50-70%.
It's not supposed to slow down, probably your computer is not fast enough. Post your specs.

i5 - 3570K at 4Ghz
GTX 650 Ti Boost
8 GB of Ram

anything else?
It's supposed to slow down after the "Clearing code cache"

See Issue 5666.

Save your game and restart your dolphin after the "Clearing code cache" to skip those random slow downs.

Thanks. I don't believe I've ever seen that message. I did spend significant time playing around with the settings though. I'm getting better performance at 2x native internal resolution. What's odd though is that 2x native resolution is giving better peformance than 1x and 1.5x.

For most of the game, it's 30 fps, but there is a few areas where it dips to low 20s and feels slow, even at 1x. I tried 2x and it gave a few fps bump in those areas and still runs 30 fps. I tried it with the framelimit set to both "auto" and "audio" and it seems okay.

Not sure why it works this way and I'd still like to see some better performance, but it's acceptable.
runs fine for me at 1920x1080 on d9 ir x3 AA 4 or opengl IR x3 top AA .can use d11 IR x4 but there is glitch when using the resident evil HD textures and i get slowdown if i use AA higher then 2 sample.so i stick with the others. I have skip EFB,open CL and openMP checked and im using LLE audio. only problem i have is after a some hours of play the audio gose all static. only way to fix this is to restart the emulator though.

Hmm.. Thanks. I checked the "Skip EFB Access" and I am notice an improvement in framerate in those specific areas where it would slow down previously.

Is this a safe feature to leave checked? Or is it a game-by-game basis?

having it checked for this game and most games lets me use AA at high IR wast using LLE..having it unchecked and trying to use AA gives me chopy audio and lag in intens areas.this is only if i use LLE.so id say if ur not experencing anything game breaking.ie aiming in zelda skywordsword. keep it checked.
ok now im gettin some reely wierd behavior with dolphin that i was not experincing befor..in the villige area were the lifts are that go down the mountin.im gettin horrible framrate.20 to be exact. and my framrate dose not change regardles of what ir or aa i use..anyone no what could be causing this?
Post your dolphin settings. That area is notorious as being one of the most slowdown-prone areas in the whole game.
