Hello,
I'm experiencing a weird issue that I think
might be a Dolphin bug.
I'm on Mac OS 10.12.6. Playing Resident Evil 4 Wii edition, NTSC USA, RB4E08.
In Dolphin 5.0-6081, everything looks normal and the game works fine.
However, in anything after that, there's a big black bar that covers part of the actual game. Also, if you compare the two images, you'll notice the part that's showing appears to be very slightly stretched.
Dolphin 5.0-6084
It does it in game, as well -
Dolphin 5.0-6243
The black bar is there the entire time, even on that warning screen. No other Wii game I tested has this problem in either version. The Dolphin versions I tested all had the exact same settings, including the same screen settings and everything else. It seems to be exclusively limited to Resident Evil 4 Wii, at least since every game I tested worked fine.
Basically, up to 6081 = fine. 6084 and up = black bar. I tried googling for this problem but there's too many people complaining about Re4's normal black bars and didn't find anything. I tested the latest build as of this post (6274) and it also has the black bar.
Now, if you are playing RE4 Wii in 6084 and up, you
can actually prevent the black bar by turning on "immediately present XFB" and the black bar will not appear. But this setting isn't needed in the older versions, and I can't find any place where anyone at all is saying that this setting is needed for Re4, so I sorta suspect that this fixing the black bar problem is just a side effect of turning immediately present XFB on, and that setting isn't actually
needed for RE4.
It also doesn't make sense to me that something changed and somehow now that XFB setting is needed, but then again, I'm not an expert on Dolphin or Wii emulation.
So, maybe this is either a bug introduced in 6084? I notice that the change for 6084 is "Fix PAL vertical scaling", even though this is definitely the NTSC USA version I'm playing here, maybe somehow RE4 wii is doing something weird and getting caught up in the PAL scaling fix?
edit: Just wanted to mention I played around a lot with various video settings and nothing fixed it. The problem also occurs in the software renderer.
edit again - so, hmm. In the older dolphin versions (I tried this in 5.0-6081) if you turn "immediately present XFB"
on then the black bar appears. So, 6081 and earlier - immediately present xfb on makes black bar appear, 6085 and later = immediately present xfb on fixes black bar. That can't be correct/expected behavior?
