Hi all, first post and all that. Playing this game on my Acer Aspire One, which is a total piece of crap netbook, so I wasn't expecting it to actually work. But it did! That is, until Chapter 8; suddenly, as soon as I leave the base (you may recall that this is the first level with a base; poor Greil), the level is just a black screen. If I press Start, the map menu opens up like usual, and if I press Y, the character stats come up like usual, but as soon as I close the windows, back to black.
I tried on the 4.0 version first (x86), and after trying everything to fix it, I went back to 3.5, having seen some folks said it worked for them. Sadly the save was lost, so I replayed up to Chapter 8, and lo and behold, the exact same issue.
Again, my computer is a $200 netbook, so if that alone is the issue, I wouldn't be too surprised. But considering how well this game worked until Chapter 8, I gotta hope it's something I can fix; if there's one game that this hunk of junk can handle (running at a sexy 16 FPS!) it would be a turn-based one. Any advice would be appreciated.
Sounds like a bad ISO to me. I played through Path of Radiance in Dolphin recently, and I know there were no crashes for me.
Thanks for the fast response! However, is there a chance it's my computer that's the issue, or does my getting through the first seven chapters mean that the computer's in the clear, blamewise? Really not into going through the beginning of Path of Radiance a third time for nothing.
Easy way to confirm things would be to go into a modern version of Dolphin, right click the game in the gamelist, go to properties, go to the info tab, and compute the MD5 and see if it matches a known good dump.
Welp, I just went through again (that makes three times), this time with a European ISO, so definitely different from my American one. Exact same issue came up. Arrgh.
Is there any precedent for this? I mean, I'm assuming it has something to do with either
-The base, which is a new function compared to the previous chapters, or
-The length of the cutscene at the end of Chapter 7 (Greeeeiiiillll!) sucking all the graphics power from the rest of the game (given I skipped the cutscenes in my replays and this seems unlikely regardless, yeah, going with the first assumption).
Any other advice that might salvage this experience? I'm super confused at why my computer would handle the game so well (slowly, but well) only to crap out at the same place every time I go through it. It's a super bummer.
Try single core for the area.
No dice. Tried disabling Dual Core, tried changing the CPU Emulator Engine, tried fiddling with the backend, nothing. I've never had the audio on, helps speed it up. Nothing.
This would be way less frustrating if I knew a concrete reason for this bs happening.
I don't have a save on Fire Emblem Path of Radiance in that area; I completed the game a while ago. As long as you've tried in 4.0 and it didn't work, then I have to assume it's something on your end.
Hi guys first post here
I'm trying to get this game to run Dolphin version 4.0-4397
it runs great except for the sprites/font where they're not so high quality(even at 4:3 aspect ratio)

sorry the pic is 16;9, im not using that anymore. Just wanted to point out the font issue.
currently playing at x2 Native and 4xSSAA, everything looks great except for the font and pixel portraits which I can never get to work.
any kind of AA other than SSAA gives me a wierd shadow around the characters
whats the best settings for the game to use on the proper aspect ratio?
also want to fix the font, anyway I can have more than x1 Native with un-pixeled font?
Sprites can't be showed at a higher quality, thats just how they work, the font is a similar situation.
