Sonic Mega Collection (Europe).
Dolphin v4.0-2101.

OGL: Graphics missing & broken, unplayable.
D3D: Starts with flickering but in 60Hz is fixed, playable.

Salu2 - Darkenss Knight

Yes: I discovered this inadvertedly.

I'm playing the PAL version of the game @Blob55 ; if you hold down 'b' on your controller/keyboard/whatever whilst launching the game it should ask you what refresh rate you want to use - 60Hz works fine for me now - default settings + gameini

I tried that, but it didn't work. It just starts the game up normally without a prompt.
Hmmm... When I was reading up it says that it doesn't always work for NTSC versions. Sorry - I think my help has ran out for now
Anyone have any other ideas or fixes?
I own NTSC version and everything works perfectly fine with Dolphin default settings (the game INI handles the specific settings needed like XFB), just tested with 4.0-2109. The only flickering I noticed was in Sonic 3 file select screen (this screen flickers no matter what settings you use), all other games ran perfectly...

Said that, make sure you don't open graphics config window while the game is running (doing that will override game INI) and that you're using OpenGL (not tested in DX11 but maybe related)

I always have the game closed when I change the Graphics settings. I also have it set up to DX11.

If that's the case I'm certain it's got to be something to do with the refresh rate chosen when you first load the game. As far as I can remember; when you run the game for the first time it will ask you to choose between 50Hz and 60Hz refresh rate. Whenever I chose 50Hz I had problems; but I found out on the PAL version you can hold b down when you launch the game and change to 60Hz.

Maybe the first time you launched the game you chose 50Hz and now it automatically reverts to 50Hz whenever you launch (I think it saves it as a default setting on the memory card). You either need to try and find the PAL version and try holding down b on launch or perhaps deleting any Sonic Mega Collection data on the memory card; then starting the game up again and seeing whether it prompts you for refresh rate.
You're wrong. First, that's very unlikely to be related to refresh rate, XFB settings is what will define if you'll get flickering or not. Second, NTSC games always run at 60Hz no matter what (there's no prompt when holding B button). And to end, if you boot a PAL game and hold B to set refresh rate, your choice is saved in SRAM.raw (found in User\GC), not in Memory Card. It'll be used with any GC game that is PAL and that support this setting...

In other words, if you are getting flickering you probably have something misconfigured in your end...

Ok, well I'll agree with what you're saying; I didn't know that about NTSC games running at 60Hz and the choice being saved in SRAM; however I do assure you that on the PAL version of my game, the flickering is determined by me choosing 50Hz or 60Hz. Scientifically, I have no idea why - this is just what happens.
But I can't work out what's misconfigured.
