Hello coming again 5 years after niceful play with Dolphin 5.0 rc34.
I'm actually playing SoA (US version) perfectly with Dolphin base configuration and haven't any problems with this version of the game BUT menus and intro screen are disapearing with EU version...
Any idea ?

EDIT : Found that config file from EU version of the game was different from US version so a simple copy/paste of US config made the deal.

Problem solved Smile
So what is this I keep hearing about an "Undub". I can google an image, but I get no description of what it is or does.
The "undub" edition is basically taking the Japanese voices and putting them on top of the NTSC-U or PAL versions. Basically, Japanese audio with English text. Although such options are standard in modern JRPGs, there wasn't enough demand back when SoA came out to make it an option (and there may not have been enough disc space anyway). The "undub" edition is a fan-made hack/patch. Not sure if it was ever finished.

At any rate, it seems kinda silly to me given how little voice-acting there is in the game. Mostly battle cries and.. that's it.

Eh, depends on the person, I remember hearing that there was meant to be more voice acting for the Dreamcast version and there was an easter egg to listen to it, but it never worked for me.

Pretty much all the voices, and magic/skill audio is straight PCM files so it's easy enough to swap between them if you have the ability to rebuild an disc image. Music is the only thing that's arranged, which is also the one part we want to fix XD

My memories are with the English version so that's the version I'll stick with.

None of the undub SoA stuff I saw was about adding in the additional Japanese VA though, just copying over any existing English VA with the Japanese counterparts. So in that regard, it's not especially worthwhile to have such an undub IMO.

I think a few people have tried audio restorations on the GCN version (with DC music), but no one has ever made any real progress. Sega likely nerfed the audio quality from the start just to fit the space constraints of the GC discs. Probably could have been solved by splitting the game into 2 discs (like Tales of Symphonia) but Sega opted not to.

Yeah, I was one of those people, problem is till we can have a way to patch files, I can't seeing it being feasible at this point, the best we can do is decode both formats used, and create tools for for GC and DC should this feature arrive to Dolphin.
Sorry to double post, since my post on the Widescreen code thread got kinda buried I thought I'd pearoast here. When I was doing some tests for streaming SoA, I noticed the Gecko widescreen hack breaks some effects and cutscenes, the most noticeable is Fina's memories at the start of the game

Notice the PoV is also squished to 4:3 while the overlay is squished further. I've tried fiddling with emulation and graphics options, this scene only plays smoothly in Vulkan backend, but on other backends the same issue happens (Just at 5fps XD). So a fix might be nice.

As far as music goes, I'm saying nothing yet. After my talking about it last time and ending up with nothing to show, I'm not going to say anything till I have something to show this time.
Relating to audio: The game uses sequenced audio files in MuseX audio file format. You can use an extraction tool to extract info files to the standard pool/proj/sdir/song files, then use amuse to play and convert the files between MuseX song format and MIDI. musyx-extract can extract and reinsert GameCube DSP samples from sdir/samp files.

I'm not sure if re-converting the files from the original Dreamcast files will fix the audio problems, however, as the game may be using the MuseX audio library incorrectly relating to sound effects.

You can use the scripts located here to convert the MLT audio files on the original Dreamcast version to DSF: http://snesmusic.org/hoot/kingshriek/ssf/
The sound driver is BONITO.DRV. I'm not aware of any Manatee/Sound Lib 2 sound format converters to MIDI or other sequenced format.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me.

The Gecko code to force the PAL version of SoA to run at 60hz doesn't seem to work for me. I'm running an RX580 8GB, Ryzen 2600x, 16GB RAM at 3200mhz so surely my spec is more than enough for 1080/60hz?I. I'm also using a HD texture pack and have forced wide-screen with Gecko.

I’m using the GECKO widescreen code but the game still isn’t widescreen. It looks like the image a few posts up. Black bars on either side of the screen, which are cutting off the image because menus text extends beyond the bars. What am I doing wrong? Or can the game not be run widescreen?
