Genesis Wrote:This is why ripping DC games kinda sucks, because you can't store your own image on a CD and play it. You need to compress it somehow.
This is also how people know the game doesn't use ADX: it never happened for SoA. The game had nothing that you could downgrade in order to reduce its size, so it wouldn't fit on anything but GD-ROMs. Games with ADX BGM can be downsampled to make them fit.
Also, the total size of the DC version is 1.86 GiB. Disc 1 is 961 MiB, and Disc 2 is 947 MiB. It's no wonder Sega had to downgrade the BGM to make the game fit on a single GC disc, even without the extra content. I can't tell exactly what format the BGM is in, though: the SOUND folder has MLT files, which would indicate DSF, but there's no MANATEE.DRV file to provide the DSF driver.
Is there a way to get rid of the weird shadows underneath the characters?
Also, is there a way to configure each game to use a different DSP Emulator Engine using Dolphin? My global options call for LLE so that I can play Star Wars Rogue Leader, but Skies should be using HLE, right? Can I force skies to use HLE somehow?

I would recommend using HLE globally and setting LLE just for Rogue Leader, because almost all games work well with HLE.
Thanks! That worked. Does anyone know how to remove those shadows though in the screenshot of my last post? They're annoying me, but the game is certainly playable.
Hey, I hope this is the most recent SoA thread. I searched some and this is the one that keeps coming up.
I was having trouble with slowdown in some cutscenes, so I started using the settings Genesis laid out a few pages back (dual core with fake-completion). Really helped with that, except for one thing: I get enormous slowdowns as I go into battle. Like, the game drops to 10-15% of normal. This is the only significant slowdown I get, and once I actually get into battle it goes away and the game runs really smoothly again. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Here's my settings.
Thanks for taking a look, SoA was a game I really liked and I figured I'd dust off the old disc and pop it in for old times' sake.

I've been following Dolphin's development for a few years now, but wanted to chime in that I also have this issue, and did not in previous builds. It's not your settings, but there is something off with the more recent builds regardless of video backend. Build 9146 is the last build that I used that worked without this problem I believe, couldn't say when it started, however.

Getting the same issue here in 4.0-9442: Switching to the DirectX12 renderer seems to help it a little, but everything video related slows to hell during most of those tessellation dissolve transitions. Even a Youtube video in a separate window stutters with it. Sometimes it's okay, most of the time it's not though.
This is a very lightweight game in Dolphin for me. I'm absolutely shocked that anyone would have issues with it.

I now have exactly the same issue as you. I used build 9450.
Build 8034 is fine, though.
I tested it with various configurations and different backends. Absolutely nothing helps, except for DX12, but it still sucks.
Please bisect down to the exact build that brought forth the issue then. I have a feeling I know what's going on, but I'd rather someone else confirm it first.
