I was hoping that someone who claims that "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" crashes or hangs with HLE (but works fine with LLE) could post an NTSC memory card save near the area or areas where the hang or freeze occurs. I have not seen this and would like to try to reproduce this myself. If I am indeed able to reproduce this, I will spend some time finding out where and when this started, but I was not able to reproduce this at any time not too long ago and played through the game without any issues.

I did some searching on Google and found a solution that said to just turn on the Item Hang patch/cheat. I reloaded to before I went into the place where Aryll was being held and started the cutscene.

Result? It got through. I was able to make it all the way up to the tower... the problem now is that the Item Hang patch/cheat took away the sound, and I have no idea how to get it back. -_-

EDIT: I disabled the patch right after the cutscene got through so I was expecting the sound would come back. However, lo and behold, the sounds are gone and I am left with nothing but hearing the gulls flapping their wings and footsteps. Any solutions?
Save the game, turn off the patch, then restart? If you are using savestages, don't.
I have plated 3.5 with the recommended settings (LLE) at least 3 times without issue. I recently played it with the delroth/RachelB build that fixed static audio in its entirety (LLE not on thread) and completed the game with recommended settings from the wiki without issue....soooo....

afaik the freezing is random. Last time I was playing I forgot to turn on LLE and it froze when I entered the Forsaken Fortress for the first time

I can provide you with savegames at any point of the game you want, I speedrun the game...

This seems to happen after some cutscenes but not limited to that, you can tell when you are going to have a problem because some sound effects are gone, one that is really easy to tell is when you are in the first cutscene in forsaken fortress, 2 things can happen, after the cutscene you can end up in a blackscreen (kinda strange) or you may be able to play but the game will be stuck after you use a loading zone.

As I said this not only limited to cutscenes, can happen when you start hearing less sound effects and enter into a loading zone but the mayority of the cutscenes have a loading zone after them so you are going to be stuck, is not necesarly a problem with the cutscenes but seems to happen in them most of the time. Another place that is easy know you are going to be stuck is when you kill Ghoma, is really easy to know the game have some sound problems, the cutscene will left you in the same place but after you kill him you have to use the warp and that have a loading zone.

I can provide you with savegames before some of this but you may have to try it a lot before you stumble with the problem, as ExtremeDude said, is kinda random... I think the easier to test may be the first FF1 cutscene, you will be in the boat before climbing the ladder, after you climb the ladder the cutscene starts.

Is there some info I can provide you with when some sound effects disappear and when the game get stuck in a cutscene?... that may be easier because I play this a lot xD

Yeah, if there is some debugging info I could provide, that would be great. For some reason I still get slowdowns using LLE (not much, but sometimes especially in large battles it'll slow to like 70% speed, and the audio is really choppy if it is below 100% speed). My computer is pretty fast, too...

With HLE the game is on steroids, never slows down. It would be nice if that speed could be attained without the random crashes.

I can attest to everything Niko says, it usually occurs during cutscenes when they load a new part of the scene.

Hello, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this inquiry, but I have been lurking for a while. I tried playing The Wind Waker earlier, and came across a grey screen error. Thanks to this thread, I managed to figure how to get rid of it. However, none of the sounds work, and I am unsure as to why that is; I am not good with computers, and am unsure of what I did exactly to get to the point I am currently at. For some reason, when I decide to save-ingame, and then reset and play, it's as though I never saved the game; only the savestate works, but for some reason, when I am playing from the savestate, the grey screen reappears as I open a door at the Fortress. Also, randomly, the game decides to put to camera in "Free Mode", and the camera rotates nonstop, and I cannot stop it. May someone please help?

I am using the most updated Version of Dolphin, and I am running DSP HLE.

See the first post in this thread...

Wind Waker has weird bugs with HLE (see previous two comments), you should use LLE. If you have a Wii (or you have a friend with a Wii), do an LLE dump: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=DSP_LLE

LLE will get worse framerates, but it doesn't crash. If your CPU is fast enough, Wind Waker becomes playable.

Also check to see if you have the "fix item hang" patch selected and make sure it is not selected. It caused really weird no-sound glitches for me.

Edit: Also, try using 3.5-stable instead of the latest development build. I tried 1691 just yesterday and my framerates dropped by 50% compared to stable.
