2. Ethics doesn't attempt to explain behavior, it attempts to rationalize what type of behavior should be considered moral.
3. Spirituality doesn't attempt to explain human behavior either.
4. Philosophy did at one time try to explain human behavior but it was basically replaced by psychology in that area and now focuses on other things.
5. Science is the dominant and only reliable way to explain human behavior. Biology (especially neurobiology and anantomy) helps explain the behavior of every creatures with nervous systems including primates such as humans. Psychology deals specifically with human mental functions.
6. Attempting to explain human behavior without science is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

1- Psychology is not a science. Psychiatry is. Psychiatrists have a medical approach of human diseases. Therapists have a more humanistic and less technical approach.
2- Ethics has ruled societies for ages. Modern societies have forgotten this. Other rules have overwhelmed common sense.
3- Spirituality has ruled societies for ages too. And modern societies have forgotten this too. Spirituality is an open-mindedness. The lack of spirituality explains some behaviors of modern societies.
4- Philosophy has lost its human side. Philosophers have become theoricians. And their theories are politically exploited. That's why politics fail.
5- Science is reliable as long as it covers material and rational subjects. Psychology can deal with psychic AND physical functions.
6- There hasn't always been scientist theories to explain the world and societies have prospered yet. Scientist theories are common nowadays but some civilizations have been disappearing
1. While there is some debate on this matter the majority of psychology associations and scientists will tell you that psychology is a science. As will most textbooks. And they do follow the scientific method.
2. Ethics attempts to explain what humans should do, not why they do things.
3. Ok.......not sure why you brought this up. This is one aspect in a sea of different abstractions.
4. Ok.......not sure why you brought this up. What does politics have to do with this?
5. This makes no sense. I'm guessing you meant to say "mental" instead of "psychic".
6. "Civilizations have been disappearing"? What? And what does prospering have to do with this?

This is why I generally don't respond to your posts. Half of what you say makes no sense.

We're talking about where human behavior comes from. Human behavior is built upon neurobiology. All of our behavior can be explained by our nervous system. Everything above that is just abstractions which can only explain limited subsets of our behavior. Claiming "science can't explain human behavior" is an utterly stupid thing to say considering we all have nervous systems that produce our behavior. If you're not going to use the scientific method to study human behavior than what the hell else are you going to use?

I wasn't insinuating anything spiritual or religious hence is why I used the term "consciousness".
The hindu have a similar belief, when a person dies they are reborn as a different person, so your soul lives on forever as different persons or something like that.

I'm quite positive that when the reincarnation was thought of, they didn't realise how quickly our population was growing. Although maybe it's offset by the amount of organisms we destroy.
There are still more bacteria on the planet than there are ever likely to be people. If a belief system allowed them to have souls, then we wouldn't run out.

1- Psychology is a science. Not Science. Actually half of Psychology cenacles follow non-scientist theories. Frequenting regularly a lot of them is probably helpful to understand that. Freudo-lacanian and Jungian schools have similarities but a lot of differences I can tell you that Tongue.
2- Not totally right. Ethics covers "had-to-do" "do" and "should-do".
3- Spirituality is overwhelmed by materialism of modern societies.
4- Bad philosophies lead to bad politics.
5- I meant "psychic". Psychic and mental have not exactly the same meaning.
6- Civilizations evolute because of human behavior.

What I say makes no sense to half of people in this world.
The other half reads my books and those of my colleagues and have a different judgement. And some of them come regularly to see me to give a comment but they usually come to talk about their own problems Wink
