That doesn't sound that bad price wise really thinking about it, what games may suffer do you think with that setup ? (i expect games i don't really play to be honest but want to check)

I may end up using a case I have here already and eventually upgrading it when I get some more cash.

Would rather not scrimp on parts for the sake of performance to be honest, want the best possible system without breaking the bank so it sounds pretty reasonable.

admin89 you mention the Pro 3 motherboard, whats the main difference between that and the 4 ?

Also is overclocking fairly easy with the asrock boards as that is something I have never attempted before mainly due to the horror stories i've heard from other people killing their mobo's in the process.
You should be able to play most games without overclocking at fullspeed.
Some games like The Last Story and Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 might need an overclock to maintain that fullspeed.

The Pro4 is better suited for overclocking and has additional options and expansions.
But really, you could save £20 if you pick the Pro3.
I would pick the Pro3 since the Pro4 won't benefit you much.

Yes overclocking is easier and safer than ever before. There's plenty of tutorials on the internet and Youtube. But if you want you can also ask for help in this thread.

As for the case. Sure, you'll save a few bucks, but trust me, having a good case with good airflow is very important as it will drastically reduce your temperatures.
Do you know what the case model, type etc is you are going to use?

Switching the motherboard to Pro3, removing the case, lowering the PSU watts (600W is more than enough) and switching the memory to G.Skill (doesn't really matter tbh) this is what your setup looks like:

It's an old custom case, doesn't say a model so I would say a cheap one to be honest.

May have to get the bits over the course of a couple of weeks so may end up just getting the bits you mentioned anyway.

Do you think for the £20 saving it's worth actually doing ? just thinking for the future thats all don't want to be upgrading down the line anytime soon so for the sake of £20 is it worth it ?
Don't forget thermal compound ! Without it , your CPU will overheat XD
Yeah. The Z77 chipset supports Intel SRT (SSD caching) and more lanes for multiple GPU's.
So, unless you're going to make use of SSDs or multiple GPU's it's not worth it.

No need. The Tranquillo cooler comes with a GC2 thermal paste which is more than sufficient.
Oh right didn't know that, doubt I will get an ssd anyways unless you think it would make a huge difference considering the cost of ssd's now.
On another note, would this setup be noisy do you know ? i've seen gaming pc's in the past which sound like a jet turbine taking off.
Quote: i've seen gaming pc's in the past which sound like a jet turbine taking off.
Haha. I've had a Pentium III that was like that. But my current rig is very quiet in comparison.

The Tranquillo cooler is very quiet. I'm running at max fanspeed all the time and it's still pretty quiet.
You can set it to QFan control (in the BIOS) which will regulate the fan depending on the temps.
That way your setup will be very quiet when you're not gaming etc.

Same applies for the GPU. You are able to control the fans and set em up to your desires.

As for the SSDs. If you have the cash. I think now is a good time to invest in an SSD.
It will make your PC much more responsive.
One of the best SSDs around at the 128GB range is the Samsung 830 Series SSD.
Don't think i could stretch to that at the minute, may have to invest in that at a later date really.

Didn't realise the GPU fans can be adjusted, i've only ever seen cpu fans that can be adjusted before. Useful to know.

Looking at installing windows 7 64bit onto this, some people i've read say windows xp is best because there is less crap to run than windows 7, can't see it but there ya go thought I would ask.
Go with Windows 7 its much better than XP.
You shouldn't worry about memory resources. With 8GB you'll have plenty left.
Ok cool thanks for all your help, when I get all the bits i will be back for more help if thats ok to make sure I have settings etc correct.

Thanks again, much appreciated.
Sorry forgot to ask, what games do you think would suffer the most with this setup ?
