That doesn't justify the creation of a new interface, framework and app format. I mean, if I have enough power on my mobile to handle a fully functional desktop with proper multitasking, why would I want that ugly app format? They should have created Contacts, Calendar and everything they felt a phone needed as regular windows applications, finally breaking this barrier between desktops and handhelds.

MS just released a Tegra 3 powered conversible tablet with Windows 8 and it features the good ol' desktop. It will be just like a desktop running Windows 8, while phones running 8 will only have this new UI/platform, which is why it was created, to bond handhelds to desktops. Still, their tablet proves they already ported Windows in its entirety for the ARM arch.. With some adjustments for small screens something like the Nexus 7 hardware would run it just fine.

I know there are limitations, I don't expect to run Dolphin on my phone, but at least they should let me try Big Grin
It would be just like a netbook, it wouldn't run every Windows program, but it would do fine for light web browsing and office works, with the advantage that the Windows platform had more than 15 years to mature already, it already comes with a bunch of accessories and applications, feature good file management/browsing, and is a much more robust and organized system in general (just open Android's root folder and you will see what I mean, that thing looks like a circus, files and folder just tossed around system stuff).

I just don't get why they create this whole new interface to run on both sides (mobile and desktop), forcing everyone to start from zero and to build a community from the ground up, if they could have just taken what everyone was already used to and brought it to our pockets. The notebook industry have been doing it since it's beginning, nobody ever thought about a notebook specific OS, they always just tried to create a PC that fit into our suitcases. So why not create a PC that fits into my pocket? It just makes sense.

It is simply ridiculous, I want to run *.exe programs on my phone, Y U NO let me do that MS? Sad

EDIT: I just saw there will be two versions of the MS Surface tablet.. The one with Tegra 3 will run only Windows RT (the idiotic windows 8 version that only comes with the dumb tile app runtime). The one that comes with Windows 8 pro (desktop version) will have an i5.
I simply can't believe such a lack of vision. Where are the Jobs and Gates of the world when you need 'em?
Like you just said in your edit they haven't ported all of windows over to arm so they can't really fully unify it at this point.
Meh... Angry
I'm sure that has nothing to do with Windows 8. Nothing. At all.
Actually Windows 8 seems to be selling well..
Actually I was just joking around, but since you said that, I figured I would google it to find out for sure. And holy crap, it's not doing so hot. Of course, MS says it's doing great, it's trying to court developers after all, but they are hiding any data they may have. What data that is out there looks pretty bad.

Computerworld Wrote:Net Applications reports that only 0.45% of Windows computers in October used Windows 8. That compares to a much higher adoption rate of 2.33% for Windows 7 during its October launch three years ago.
Computerworld Wrote:Windows 8 will have to hustle to match the uptake of Windows Vista. That problem-plagued edition accounted for 1% of all copies of Windows after its first full month. To equal that, Windows 8 will have to more than double its share during November.

Ouch.
It's not going to sell well on desktops/laptops/nettops/netbooks/ultrabooks/whatever other form factors we suddenly decide pretend didn't used to exist (since we never had a marketing name for it) in the coming years. As always the vast majority of sales will be to OEMs so ultimately they decide their fate. Any data about the number of retail copies sold is effectively useless.

But it might do well with OEMs in the tablet/smartphone market, time will tell. That's an entirely new previously untapped market for them (though they have tried and failed before), the figures may shift in the future so that desktops/laptops are no longer the primary hardware platforms for windows.

They probably figure that this new big and rapidly growing market will easily make up for any lost sales in the desktop/laptop market which will soon generate less sales and is declining.

Cool, when Dolphin Emulator be compatible with Windows 8, I would try it !
......it already is. Nearly any application that you can run in windows xp/vista/7 should be able to run in windows 8.
