Not as good as 40C Tongue
I doubt there is an air cooler out there that can keep an ivy bridge at 4.4GHz at 40 C under heavy load.
My guess is the "40 under heavy load" doesn't necessarily mean Dolphin (which in my experience is the most demanding application I have for my CPU).
Substitute "heavy load" with "dolphin" and I'm still skeptical that it could be done without high end liquid cooling.

Dude, this is awesome!

I've been looking around for a decent up to date HTPC that'd run dolphin, and yours is perfect. I'm going to order the same parts myself. Smile

True, but the 212 EVO gets the job done, especially in larger cases where you have space for other fans to keep things under reasonable temperatures. My two main gaming rigs (me and my brother's) use 212 EVOs and they work fine. But they aren't as efficient or as quiet as the Noctua is. However - the noctura is 50$ more than a 212 EVO so...

It depends. You can easily fit 4 3.5" drives in it, but I'm using one of the drive bays on the front for my IR reciever just to keep it all in the case. I'm planning on adding a second 3TB Hard Drive as my christmas gift to myself, but between the 6TB of space and the 128GB SSD, I'll be plenty fine storage wise :p Anything more than that, and you might want to look into a home NAS server, so you can stream the content almost anywhere.

Well I meant XBMC playing a video, while Handbrake CLI is also compressing a Blu Ray in the background. I do get 20 degrees celsius on idle though, I know that.

I may have just ballparked it (or BSed it because I wasn't at my PC to get screens at the time of the post), but tonight when I get the list of software used for my next big post, I'll be sure to get some temperature measures. The way the case is designed, the two Thermaltake 80mm fans point right at the heatsink, so they might be helping a bit too.

Awesome! That's the whole point of my post, to help people get an idea of how to make their own. Be sure to double check the parts and such to suit your space / price range though Wink

Software post will be up soon guys, sorry for the delay. Extra Life 2012 was this weekend, and my team raised $4000 overall. Crazy stuff!

I'll try and get some photos of the inside of the case when my TV Tuner Card comes in. Did I mention I might be able to get this to replace my cable box / TiVo and stream TV anywhere I have internet? Big Grin

You misunderstand. My post was directed at axxer, not you.

Ah. Well anyways, I wasn't too far off - the Noctua cooler is just incredible.

Here's right after boot, with XBMC running:

and here's with skyward sword launched, using the wii remote to run around skyloft for about 3 minutes, and with xbmc running in the background as well:

If anyone wants a video / test demo of anything else, let me know. Software post will most likely be tomorrow, as I have to wait around for the cable company to finish my Tuner Setup for the Cable Card I just installed so as to ditch the cable box and go with windows media center / xbmc for live tv / recording tv. I'm only getting about 80% of the channels I should...
