Quote:Fwiw, don't mistake that I'm strictly speaking about MPC. Other media players don't have the necessary codec packs, hence things like CCCP and K-Lite are required. If a new feature gets added to the media player, you update it. If the codecs get updated, you have to update the codec packs as well. I don't want this. With MPC it appears to have a lot of codecs built in, based on what you're telling me. Many of the other players in my Windows experience haven't been so fortunate.

But why would you use another media player when you have MPC-HC? This seems like a non-issue to me.
Don't you mean "why would you use another media player when you have VLC?" Wink Years ago, only VLC was up to snuff for the videos I was watching, so I switched. VLC still plays everything I need to watch, so why would I go to another media player? It'd be a different case if I were curious about alternatives (which I'm not) or if my needs weren't currently met (but they are).

For others, I imagine MPC-HC might not be to their liking (sometimes it's just a matter of taste) even if it has excellent compatibility. Such things as certain features (or lack thereof) might turn some people away. Perfect for you and me doesn't mean it's quite perfect for everyone.

VLC!!1!
I've never managed to get VLC to play everything perfectly on either linux or windows no matter how much tinkering I do. Whereas MPC-HC works perfectly for everything right out of the box and has some of the highest quality decoders and renderers you can find anywhere. For me it's a pretty easy choice.
And for me, VLC's been perfect for quite some time. Does what it says on tin (well, not really, the VLC initialism is outdated :p but whatev).
Do VLC and/or MPC-HC support DVD playback directly from an ISO or do they first require it to be mounted?

I suppose it isn't that big a deal if I have to mount it if I'm running my DVD collection through XBMC and Advanced Launcher, but it would make things simpler when just browsing for files.
Guys, i think he was being saracastic about you going off topic and now talking about media players Tongue

MPC-HC does, I don't know about VLC.
