Axxer: The bottom line is that you say that OSX is best for you and then you voted for it, but yet you're using Windows regularly to play games because OSX sucks. We're having a discussion and a vote about which OS is best and yet some people voted for one and then use another. That seems odd to me. This is the disconnect we're having right now.

I use OS X the vast majority of the time because I like it better. I haven't touched my desktop otoh for a couple of days. I'm not using Windows regularly at all.

iOS has a bigger number of users who have purchased an app than Android. There are more Android users, true, but most don't buy apps. Most iOS users buy apps.

Common sense trumps fanboyism.

Closed platforms really need to die, you're not helping.

The consumer is sovereign. If the consumer doesn't like closed platforms, they will die. A lot of people do like closed platforms though, so I must follow what the consumer wants.
Consumers will stop using closed platforms if developers stop making applications for closed platforms. You DO have a choice.

I don't think so. Android users aren't going to buy my apps. iOS users will. Even if I only develop for Android, that would just mean I don't make money and if all developers follow suit very few people will make money.

On iOS the apps on the App Store are of higher quality because only developers willing to pay a premium can develop for it. Thus customers want those apps over Androids apps.

Until a store comes out for Android where it costs a premium to launch an app there AND IT BECOMES POPULAR there isn't much that can be done for the money situation.
And the store needs to be regulated for quality as well.

Whelp....you're well beyond hope.

That isn't my fault. A bunch of developers who don't deserve to be supported in Google Play are. Users don't like it, and aren't willing to buy an app on the store in case it ends up being by a bad developer.

I would love to have a store like the App Store while also being able to go online to search for Apps. That is the real solution the the issue.
So many VLC haters Sad Granted, I have no interest in HTPC setups whatsoever and therefore have never tried any media player in this regard, it's been absolutely perfect for all of my multimedia needs, i.e., I have file, I click it, it plays. No futzing with codec packs. Haven't had any trouble playing any formats for about a year and a half now (it was only with h.264 HD MKVs from a certain source). Maybe it's just the Windows version, runs fine on my setup Wink

That basically puts everyone in the "Windows is best for me" category. If your OS is truly best for you, why are you spending time in Windows? I don't spend any time in your OS. When I say that the OS I use is best for me, I mean it. Smile

*Looks at boot menu, sees only Slackware 64 and 32-bit entries* Nope, no Windows here Smile
I've been trying to think of a way to make the perfect HTPC software set up, and my preferred OS for that purpose is Xubuntu, but unfortunately Dolphin doesn't have the greatest support for OpenGL. I bring this up because VLC was what I was going to use for playing back DVDs, ISOs, and video files in general. This is a topic for a different thread though.

@People who dont like VLC: VLC isn't powerful? By that do you mean it has inferior playback to another tool? I want to know so that If I set up my HTPC with it I would like it to function at the highest level possible.

Somebody already told you:
fagoatse Wrote:Please don't mention VLC. It's absolutely rubbish and considered as evil amongst enthusiasts. Anybody who has ever built a fully fledged HTPC knows that there are not alternatives to MPC-HC + LAV Filters + madVR. This is the only way to get the best quality and performance. And these are win32 apps only. As far as linux and osx are concerned, the only media playback software that delivers somewhat similar results is mplayer2 along with smplayer2 for gui and opengl 3 renderer. When it comes to music playback foobar2000 is the most stable and customizable app out there. Should work under wine just fine.
This is a good read regarding players(albeit a bit outdated) - http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.p...ia_Players

Hence why windows remains the best platform for multimedia.
(I'm not biased in anyway though, I boot into linux to do any other tasks, my distro of choice is linux mint xfce and bodhi)

This man speaks the truth.
It keeps giving me 404 errors, so I was hoping for a technical explanation in-thread.
