Id say for a big market scale, like, with billions of average users, windows just does the job better, but macOs is getting there slowly. Linux is cool if you know how to handle it, but it aint for the mass market.
Quote:@SS - Well, my "Which hand do you use" thread had a few interesting results even though I knew many people were right-handed. Like you said, it'll be Windows, but what's interesting is the margins. We're lucky we can discuss this in a relatively mature manner. Other places would have a flame war going on. That's cause the Dolphin community is small, which reduces the number of fucktards and therefore the probability of a fucktard entering the thread, obviously

Fixed that for you Tongue

Quote:Heresy! VLC is king.

All hail the king!

I'm gonna have to disagree here, VLC sacrifices alot of features for compatibility for all video containers, taking up a video's audio to 400% for me is just terrible, although i havent used VLC in a while so i dont if they've fixed their internal filters, currently rocking MPC and DivX player.....MPC is the king
seriously guys, windows 8 is actually really good (not because i got it for free Big Grin)

you don't miss aero at all and searching for stuff has gone far easier
Quote:IMO , Winamp is the best music player for windows , it can play/convert Wii BGM
WinAMP is like iPod - very popular but far from being best in terms of quality.

Mac OS X isn't going anywhere, it's locked by overpriced Apple hardware. Also, yes there's some games ported to OS X but in reality many games are played better with wine in linux because you can use any hardware and there's less OS-related problems.
Linux well - main problem isn't that's it hard to use but that's there's many distros with different package systems causing some incompatibilities.
On base level, like movies, music, web and stuff Linux is a lot easier than Windows or OS X with just default installation.
For games yeah, many games run in wine without any problems but sometimes it requires some knowledge, and most people can't really fully use any OS, they just know how to boot and click, nothing more. In Commodore 64 times things were different, people at least knew some BASIC stuff Big Grin

Install Directx + Visual C plus plus + Winamp + Format Factory (Tick "Install Inside Codecs") -> Play .mkv & other formats with Windows Media Player ... Win Win !
I just don't like Winamp's interface

NO!!! THEY CAN'T HAVE DONE THIS!!!
It's only the glass, the rest is still there
Please don't mention VLC. It's absolutely rubbish and considered as evil amongst enthusiasts. Anybody who has ever built a fully fledged HTPC knows that there are not alternatives to MPC-HC + LAV Filters + madVR. This is the only way to get the best quality and performance. And these are win32 apps only. As far as linux and osx are concerned, the only media playback software that delivers somewhat similar results is mplayer2 along with smplayer2 for gui and opengl 3 renderer. When it comes to music playback foobar2000 is the most stable and customizable app out there. Should work under wine just fine.
This is a good read regarding players(albeit a bit outdated) - http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Media_Players

Hence why windows remains the best platform for multimedia.
(I'm not biased in anyway though, I boot into linux to do any other tasks, my distro of choice is linux mint xfce and bodhi)
Quote:1. Power and Speed: Linux > OS X > Windows
Linux has the best command line and speed. Period. OS X has an excellent command line as well, with plenty of the Unix goodness that Linux has. Windows is a complete mess IMO, so it has speed and feature issues.
IMO that should be Windows -> Linux -> OSX.
Windows does support a lot of commands, which many of you don't even know about.

Quote:2. Usability: OS X > Linux > Windows
OS X is very easy to use, and has the best app-switching available if you use a trackpad. Linux has so many different GUIs there is almost always one to suit your style, but if you don't really have a preference Xubuntu is excellent IMO. Windows GUI is fine, but the ridiculous issues it has sometimes really make the user angry. Plus Windows 8 ruins the traditional desktop, so it loses again.
Again, opinions differ, but IMO this should be Windows -> Linux -> OSX.
Windows 8 isn't officially out yet, so it isn't fair to judge it with that in mind.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I agree.
For video playback and the like, MPC-HC is the best player out there. There's absolutely nothing on other OS's that comes even close.
For music, foobar2k is unmatched. Very lightweight and highly customizable.

These, among many others, are the reasons I can't leave Windows for Linux.
And believe me, I've tried to get myself to use Linux as my primary OS, several times.

So yes, Windows wins easily.
