Nintendo Maniac 64 Wrote:Just had a crazy thought - wouldn't it theoretically be possible to assemble a custom Ubuntu Live CD/USB specifically for Dolphin benchmarking? This way you'd be guaranteed to have the same software environment.

It would also be tedious and extremely inconvenient for users and would therefore reduce the number of results 10 fold. And it's virtually useless. But yes it could be done.
Dolphin version: 3.0 x64,
I should note that no modifications were made.

CPU: Ivy Bridge Core i5 3570 3.4 GHz
GPU: MSI nVidia GTX 660 2 GB GDDR5
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333/1633
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I did not move during the screenshot captures. The salesman's boat is visible this time.

I should also note that this CPU cannot be overclocked since it's not the 3570K version, just the 3570. If these tests are still insufficient, I don't know WHAT is.

looks good. The guy that was benching @ 5.15ghz is very good. Tongue it makes my 5ghz overclock seem right on the mark. (since his is a 2500k vs my 3560k).

Tongue

i will get to rebenching with my overclocked ram... someday. it made a difference with PCSX2... i really wanna see if it makes a difference in this as well lol.
Are there any other games that need to have benchmark tests?
nah but i would like to see a gpu benchmark thread.

It doesn't really matter about other games. Once you have one test like this, you can already get an idea of which CPUs will perform best. Other games will have different fps/vps/speed readings, but in the end, all of the CPU rankings should still be the same. I can see doing another CPU benchmark when/if Dolphin 4.0 comes out, but that's only to be current and know where Dolphin stands at that point and to see how much the CPU requirements have changed. In that case, this same game should be ran again with the same settings and then compared.

Alrighty then, just wanted to make sure Big Grin Well, one thing's for certain, my CPU certainly is decent enough for running Dolphin Tongue

pretty much except the most intense games. otherwise ur gravey Smile
Well my specs are in my sig but

intel core i5-2450M, turbo is enabled, and at the time of the benchmarks was running at 2.9ghz
8GB of ddr3 1333 9-9-9-27 memory (dual channel 2x4GB)
amd 1GB GDDR3 7670M graphics card (catalyst 12.9, f'in toshiba and their "we dont allow amd drivers you have to use our old outdated custom toshiba ones" -.-)
Windows 8 Pro x64 (windows 8 does have better performance then windows 7 btw, as i upgraded win7>8 on this laptop, tho i didnt do this exact test before and after)

Well i do have all my driver up to date (well as much as i can :3), all my windows updates up to date.

I did my test after a fresh restart of my computer, w/o opening anything but the emulator.
I do keep my system pretty optimized by not running things i dont need to and a few other tweaks (nothing as drastic as like turning off visual themes or anything). I also did end a few processes that didnt need to be running like skype, my vengence mouse software, and a few others.
I didnt change any settings to the emulator. Also i did let the emulator run the spot for about 60 seconds, and then took a screen shot for each one.

EDIT: o forgot to add i do keep my laptop clean of dust, and use a laptop cooler, and my room generally stays at a cool temperature. so there is no overheating or throttling happening because of something like that.

FPS 58 / VPS 116 / SPEED 193[Image: Save1.png]
FPS 44 / VPS 88 / SPEED 146[Image: Save2.png]
FPS 69 / VPS 139 / SPEED 231[Image: Save3.png]

Now i also did a few other tests on other revisions aswell (i did mimic the setting in the inis tho)
Dolphin 3.5
FPS 54 / VPS 109 / SPEED 181
FPS 42 / VPS 84 / SPEED 140
FPS 64 / VPS 128 / SPEED 214

Dolphin 3.5 r1056
FPS 56 / VPS 112 / SPEED 187
FPS 42 / VPS 85 / SPEED 142
FPS 65 / VPS 130 / SPEED 216

so 3.0 > 3.5 is a drop in fps.
but 3.5 > 1056 does slightly increase the performance.

I decided to also throw on the benchmarks of my old laptop aswell.
(ya i know double post, but i figured since its a completely different test, it deserves its own post XD)
nvm it seems to auto merge posts, so i put a little spacing between them lol

Amd turion II x2 P540 @ 2.4ghz
4GB of ddr3 1066 7-7-7-21 memory (dual channel 2x2GB)
amd 512MB GDDR3 5470M (catalyst 12.3, anything higher then that seems to cause problems, tho i havent tried updating it since like 12.10)
windows 7 home x64

again same as above test with my other laptop

Figured the more results on different hardware the better, and there arnt many laptop benchmarks so heres 2 different laptops with 2 completely different specs Tongue

It's a dual core CPU
