Alright so long story short, girlfriend has a new macbook, and runs the latest Dolphin for gamecube emulation. She says it runs fairly well but say at night, when the game is displaying streetlights etc, it comes to a screeching halt at about 4-9%.
I'm a fairly experienced windows gamer, I've built many pcs etc, i have no problems running dolphin myself, but I'm really unfamiliar with Mac. Her processes are showing dolphin running at 149% of her cpu, and thats when its NOT lagging for her.
Her specs are as follows:
8gb ddr3 Ram
Nvidia Geforce GT 650m 1024mb
2.3 ghz intel core i7
ive had her change any configurations to make it run smoother but it still happens. Is it even possible for her to run it well or is it just too strenuous on her processor?
Any suggestions? I told her it seemed unlikely to me that there was much we could do.
Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display? Which game? Which Dolphin revision?
We need more information

If I'm not mistaken, that is the base model of the Retina MacBook Pro. For anyone else reading this thread, the specs of it are on Apple's website.
Anyway, we need to know the version of Dolphin, settings, and the specific game.
EDIT: ninja'd

Yes and no. The normal 15.4" Macbook Pro (base model) has the same specs (just one thing: instead of SDD a HHD).
alright thanks for the quick response guys, she just went to class, ill post more info ASAP.
shes running Harvest Moon: Another Wonder Life, checking on the other stuff atm

Wait what? If you look at te Retina Pro on the website and click "Tech Specs" you should see its exact specs. SSD and all.

Yes she has Retina Display, and she doesnt have her laptop with her but she downloaded the latest version as of June '12
Tell her to use 3.0-413 (look at the build archive and look for it there) or one immediately afterward. Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life needs a build after that one, and the builds around there are pretty fast.
When you can get the laptop, post up the settings in the emulator (as screenshots).
alright kickass, thanks a lot. Yeah ill have her use that version then post screenies in about half an hour or so.
Since you're unfamiliar with OS X: Command-Shift-3 takes a screenshot of the whole screen, Command-Shift-4 lets you capture a portion of the screen, and hitting Command-Shift-4 then pressing Space allows you to capture an entire window.
