Get a better cooler.
78 degree are okay for Dolphin. But if you want to change your temps.

-> Better cooler
-> Better thermal compound (Arctic Cooling MX-4)
I'd start by getting a upgrading to a black Phenom II x4.

Assuming you aren't using a laptop, I can advise you on which cooler to get or even sell you one of my old ones. (I'm a silence enthusiast and upgrade to the latest and greatest every few months.)

Seriously? I set my alarms for 60!
Yep, 78 degree are okay. Everything above 85 is not really healthy for the CPU, but it depends on the CPU.
His temps are ok though 78 degree celcius is consider as hot for a desktop CPU , my OCed desktop CPU temp tends to stay around 58-62 degrees on full load with homemade cooler and 70 degree with stock cooler . Yeah i used Arctic MX-4

What was your cooler before you repurposed it?
Mine with stock cooler/paste and very slight OC never goes over 60C

Also, yes I know, no one asked me :p
Intel stock cooler

Homemade cooler looks like this before i mod it :

It's heavy , twice as big as intel stock cooler . It has excellent air flow -> make a lot of noise on full load -> I have to remove the fan and add noctua fan on top to reduce the noice
CPU : E5300 2.6GHz -> OC 3.6GHz
I don't care much for desktop so i don't need to pay extra for an aftermarket cooler

I was expecting something along the lines of making a non-PC heatsink fit and zip-tying at fan to it...
