In LLE mode I still get massive skipping even with DX9
but something weird just happened
I had the game running perfectly smoothly WITH music in HLE until I killed the very first bad guy to release the Yoshi egg in the first level
killing that guy resulted in a looping/beeping sound
I don't know, if this was posted before, but did you try the "VBeam trick"?

Check "Accurate VBeam eumluation" in the game properties of your game and disable "Enable Idle Skipping".
yeah that's the trick I did
it didn't help
DX9 too

I even turned off AA and reduced the game to native resolution but it didn't do much
When exactly do you get skipping sound ?
You shouldn't get it before bowser ( big guy ) show up even with default settings without vbeam.
I dont on 3.1 ghz cpu.
If you get it as soon as you start the game, something is wrong with your settings or your computer since 3.6 ghz should handle first couple of minutes of game without sound skipping in LLE on default settings
