Got it all built, it all fits very smoothly (but took some clever work) into the Lian-Li PC-C338. OH MY LORD THE NOCTUA COOLER IS SO FLIPPIN' QUIET IT'S AMAZING. Even overclocked to 4.3/4.4 GHz, the processor doesn't go about 60 at load, and it's whisper quiet. Can't hear it from it's spot on the shelf next to the TV.
Now I just need to get dolphin configured :p
Do you still plan on posting build pics?
Most likely, when I'm not too busy with the HTPC itself :p
Sorry, it takes a while to get XBMC all up and running.
The build itself was pretty easy - no real problems or surprises that would require me to modify any parts in any way. If you use my build list, you will get a PC that works damn well, even if not as an HTPC :p
Also, Surround Sound works fine with LLE. I can't run AA as high as I'd like, but I'd take sound over slightly more rounded edges anyways.
Also, just a quick graphical representation of what the build can do:
^This and SMG 1 and 2 on a 72" 1080p TV = Awesome.
Awesome
Is that running at 3x or 4x IR? I can only seem to get 2x on Skyward Sword with my 550 Ti. I realize the 560 Ti is better, but is it that much better?

4x IR, 4x anisotropic filtering, and 0xSSAA (Because I need to run LLE for stability / surround :p)
Oh, and I splurged and got a 660ti, because of the borderlands 2 promotion, and I got a bit more spending money from some overtime. So the HTPC can run near anything. But 2x IR and 4x SSAA will look as good as my 4x IR and no SSAA. I just find 4x IR more stable on my machine.
You need DX11 to run Skyward Sword properly (for banding). Maybe that's changed recently, but I believe the banding can only be fixed with 16x AF and DX11.
The 660Ti is a true beast so yeah 4x IR makes a lot of sense now. My 550Ti can't match that.
Congrats dude, looks awesome :p
I thought the GTX 550 Ti was good enough for 4x IR for Dolphin, at least that's what the minimum GPU specs thread says. I know every game is different though. Haven't played this game myself yet on Dolphin.

It depends on the game, like you said. Wind Waker and most GameCube games I've tried, for example, work great in 4x IR. Skyward Sword and Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, however, slow down when using 4x or even 3x IR. So I use 2x IR for those games.
I use Per-Pixel Lighting though, so I'm sure I could squeeze out more performance if I disabled that. It's just that the Lumas look so awesome with that checked that I can't bring myself to sacrifice that for a 30 vertical pixel jump in resolution (I use a 1080p TV and 2x IR is 1056 pixels tall).

Yeah, I went for 4x IR because it's still higher than 1920*1080 so AA won't make too much of a difference if I'm already oversampled.
But from what I've played, Skyward Sword works great and no banding even with directX 3D9. I know it used to be buggy, but even the painting effect at distance is emulated pretty well. Granted I only played from the hub to the forest area to the past to demise since I had my old save file, but still I didn't notice any issues

Ah yes, I forget that it's not just AA options that put more stress on the GPU. I would ask you how those games you mentioned play with 4x IR and no enhancements whatsoever, but I'll find out later. 4x IR is a ridiculous resolution anyway (3x IR is greater than 1080p anyway)

Well for the sake of simplicity (I need all games to work as well as possible for when I bring the PC to friends / family), I'm running LLE to ensure proper sound. I've got every other visual enhancement apart from SSAA because 4x IR is stable even with per pixel lighting and such, but 3x IR and even 2x SSAA still stutters somewhat.
I tested the first few levels of SMG 1 last night, and the whole into averages about 55FPS, mostly 60 but some parts (the meteors landing, Rosalina's first appearance, etc.) it would dip to 55/50 FPS for a few seconds. Also when a lot of things "pop up" on screen (star bits, coins, etc.) there's a 2-3 FPS slowdown, but apart from that it runs 60 FPS and looks great. Having LLE on means there's no audio problems either
Skyward Sword just runs like butter. Fought Demise the whole way through with no issue, although the newest build of Dolphin will lag for a half second when you take your first swing with a wiimotion plus remote. After that, it works perfectly.
I usually sit a good enough distance away from the TV that 4x IR and even 3x IR are hardly noticeable. I generally use 2x or 2.5x IR for most Wii games (because I can sit on my couch which is very far away from the TV, and I can't tell from that distance) and 4x IR with some FXAA maybe in GameCube games (because I'm close to the screen by the limit of my controller's cable).
I'll test out 4x IR without that enhancement in SS later (because lighting doesn't do as much in SS as SMG). I'll also try DX9 to confirm SN3S' results. The banding is present in all areas of the game generally so if it didn't happen in the beginning it won't happen ever.

I noticed that too. It went away after I turned off a mouse application though (which puzzled me). Try killing other apps to see what happens.
