That's what I did till I got windows 7 Big Grin
I used windows 7 RC for a full year after it expired by just changing the year in my system clock. I'm willing to bet that that will still work with windows 8 consumer preview.
Actually I think it might not work because of some of the new measures they've taken.

A Core i7 is pretty good, I have one and very demanding games seem to run with no problems.
Save yourself some money and get an i5 instead. They perform just as well in most applications, including dolphin.
