Full Version: Dolphin and defining minimum specs
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
This is what's written on the Dolphin homepage:

System Requirements
Dolphin makes use of two processors if present!
Windows XP or higher, or Linux, or MacOSX Intel.
Fast CPU with SSE2.
GPU with Pixel Shader 2.0 or greater. Not all integrated graphics chips work.

"Fast CPU" is kinda vague, considering how important CPU plays a part on how fast the game runs on Dolphin. How about if the devs actually define the absolute minimum specs they'll be supporting? They can test all of their future builds on this "minimum specs" machine. It doesn't mean the game won't run on lower kinds of processors. It just means the devs don't have to bother with questions from users with systems below minimum reqs. "We ain't gonna fix it. Fix your operating system, do the performance tips, or get a new computer". Okay that sounds rude, but it IS totally sensible.
The main site is pretty outdated.

This will be the new site (still wip)

We do support every CPU with SSE2 as it is written in the FAQ you quoted. Supporting != making sure every game runs at 100% speed.

Yeah the hardware part there looks way better. Smile The installation issues faq is funny. Big Grin So THAT's where I get that dll!
Unfortunately the requirements for running a game at fullspeed are completely different for every game so listing the minimum requirements to run games at fullspeed is out of the question.

I did however attempt to categorize the performance of x86 cpus by their product brand name which I believe is the next best thing: http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread.php?tid=24206

More has been added. http://dolphin-emu.org/docs/faq/

That's as good as it's going to get for an at-a-glance look. More detailed stuff can be found on the forum, like NV's stuff.
