Introduction:
This project was started by layberneth. However, since he has been busy lately, a new thread has been made to keep the first post up to date.
The goal of this project is to get all the textures optimized for 1080p.

Current Bugs and Problems:
1. The texture pack interacts strangely with the Japanese voice acting. (Fix - A possible fix may be to start the game with English voice acting and then change to Japanese, but it is recommended to stay away from the Japanese voice acting until it's completely fixed.)


Installation:
1. Extract the entire folder from the .7z to your desktop.
2. Rename "SX4P01" folder to "SX4E01".
3. Alternative textures can be found in the "-Optional-" Folder.
To use them, copy and overwrite textures with the same name in SX4E01 folder.
4. Extract "NameConvertor.exe" from the zip file (found in Software folder) into "SX4E01" folder.
5. Enter SX4E01 and press START.
6. Copy/Paste SX4E01 folder into...
Dolphin builds pre-4.0 : \Dolphin\User\Load\Textures\
Dolphin builds post-4.0 : \Username\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Load\Textures\
7. Dolphin Graphics Settings:
  • General Tab > Backend: OpenGL/*Direct3D9 (Direct3D11 causes issues)
  • Hacks Tab > Texture Cache [Slider all the way to FAST]
  • Advanced Tab > Load Custom Textures [ON] & Dump Textures [OFF]
8. Run and play normally.


Troubleshooting:
1. This will only work on Xenoblade with game ID SX4P01, mine is the PAL version patched with the 30fps patch. If you own a different version of the game, use the Any Game ID Converter.
2. If at first it does not work, save a savestate and load it, else restart Dolphin.
3. If you have Dump Textures enabled, disable it, sometimes some textures wont load if you use it with Load Custom Textures.
4. Anyone having partial load issues make sure your texture cache is set to fast (credit: serimorph)
5. If it is still only partially working, for example one portrait is not working, take a screenshot and make a savegame an post it in my thread. (However there are issues with the big portraits in the Skill/Ability/Crafting pages only loading for Melia/Fiora)
6. Since one image may be used with multiple IDs, textures that should work will sometimes not appear depending on where you are in the game. This simply means we did not get the ID for that image at that part of the game. Please dump that texture and upload it.
7. If it is not working at all, post or PM me and I will try my best to assist.

1.) For standard Dolphin builds, users should use the PNG pack. For DX9 Dolphin builds, users should use the DDS pack.
2.) The PNG textures have higher quality than the DDS versions, but DDS "might" be faster on older hardware.
3.) This is a LOT of textures (over 86k), so initally loading the game may take a bit longer than you might be used to.
4.) The slider in Dolphin>>Graphics>>Hacks>>Texture Cache needs to be set to "Fast" or almost NOTHING will be textured, and you will dump the wrong texture IDs (if you decide to dump).
5.) Some textures may share the same ID! When this happens, you may find a portrait where a border should be, or something else might be off. There is no way to fix this because of the way this texture pack was created and the way Dolphin handles paletted textures. So it's a "deal with it" situation, although it seems to be extremely rare (only 3 known cases).
6.) Renaming the textures/folder for USA has never been easier. Run XbC Region Texture Converter, hit Enter. Wait. Done. It even renames all optional textures. It can also convert them back to Europe if desired. You no longer have to manually rename anything, so DO NOT MANUALLY RENAME ANYTHING BEFORE RUNNING IT. It is very important to keep the folder structure to work properly.

If you have photo editing skills (ex: Photoshop), you can help with:

Your job is to simply retexture.
Here is messiahgov's full texture dump. While it contains the majority of the game's textures, keep in mind that this is about 75% of all the textures.


If you have no photo editing skills, you can help with:

  • Testing
  • Both
  • Font Finding
Your job is to find any textures that should work but actually does not work or appear. Dump that original texture because it contains the ID that Dolphin uses to replace textures (ex: SX4P01_43bcaf7a_0).
Upload the textures to a file/image hosting site.

RE: SolarNova:Ok the water is alot more ...complicated... than i first thought. The water animation is made up off alot of very small very low quality images . it wont be as easy as the other terrian texture replacements.

ill see what i can do but i think it might be beyond me Tongue

UPDATE: i used the image from the zelda pack ..and duplicated it over a larger image to get the effect of a higher resolution. Unfortunatly it seems the image the game uses is constantly moving .and since the game stretches this texture over a REALLY vast area, the image looks to move incredibly fast. We wont be able to replace the water texture with a large image unless we can slow down that movement or the image used only has large details (ripple) and not lots of small ones. hard to explain untill you see it for yourself so... copy THIS file and see for yourself. Again its the water around colony 9.

I'm working on the effects textures for the water now, im just gunna try duplicated and tileing 4 of them together. Should increase quality of the effect that is overlayed onto the water texture itself.

There are lots of them and im using a online photoeditor so gotta do it the slow manual way lol ..cba to install photoshop atm Tongue the result will be the same ..just takes longer.
I am going to attempt working on the water too
Great work! Please make it easier for end users and provide a single download file as well as a USA SX4E01 prepatched version. There are many non IT-expert people that should get a chance to use this project.

And the third monado sign seems to have the wrong kanji. The lower middle part does not seem to be correct.
Ok im gunan upload a rar with water texture and watter effects texture. Only colony 9 atm.

Heres what it wil look like.

Might not be clear but the effects, liek the black blobs that move around have been increased in quality and thus there are more of them on the screen.
The underlying water texture is roughly the same size as the original but is a completly different texture which is darker with a hint of green to replicate real life.
