Nah, it's cool. I'm in the process of building my own desktop PC so I'm moderately informed on this stuff.
btw , i5 460m is a dual core cpu while most desktop i5 are quad core . Since it's first gen i5 ; it's much slower than the latest 4thgen i5
Here are my specs

Intel i7-4700MQ 2.4ghz (3.2ghz for quadcore, 3.3ghz for dualcore with TB)
Nvidia Geforce GT 740M
6gb RAM

How can I expect to run games on this system?
Which games do you intend to play? quite a few should play very well, the only issues will be with the heavier games, speaking on a general note.
Gamecube

Eternal Darkness
Killer 7
Metroid Prime 1 and 2
Paper Mario TTYD
Resident Evil
Twilight Princess
Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2

Wii

Metroid Prime 3
Metroid Other M
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Super Paper Mario
Xenoblade Chronicles

I would like to play them at 720p in true widescreen, not too fussed about AA.
A lot of those aren't going to run at fullspeed. I haven't played all of them but I can tell you that Metroid prime 1/2/3 and Super mario galaxy 1/2 will definitely perform semi-poorly.

I notice the Intel core i7 is in the extremely fast category for the cpu but I was informed that was a bit dated for the purposes of playing Wind Waker with little hiccup (game plays fine indoors but if outside in the main world and doing combat it gets choppy and slow fast) so I guess my question is to get it to the point where it stops slowing down so much do I need to invest in an even faster cpu?
This does not have a good breakdown for different revisions of CPUs. Please stick to the thread you made
I'd like the argue in favor of the Athlon II. I'm using an Athlon II x4 750k and its single threaded performance is better than the Phenom II 965. I only play super smash bros brawl project m over netplay but I always get full speeds it never hiccups at all. In addition it's not even overclocked at the moment.
That's because the 750K isn't actually an Athlon II, it's just labled "Athlon X4".

Athlon II = Phenom II (K10) without L3 cache.

750K = Trinity APU (Piledriver) with iGP disabled

And for reference, Steamroller does even better. Wink Without an L3 cache it's even competitive against Piledriver with L3 cache.
