cheers guys, very much appreciated
Make sure your PSU (power supply) pack enough punch to overclock

That should have been pretty obvious.

The thread is titled "Dolphin CPU hierarchy". Thus you should expect it to rank the performance of different cpus in dolphin into a hierarchy, not the entire system. No where do I mention that the cpu is the only component that determines performance. And you shouldn't make that assumption if it isn't stated.

On top of that I have another stickied thread right below this one titled "Minimum specs - video card". So it should have been obvious that dolphins performance is affected by your video card and that you were supposed to read that to determine what video card you need.

Next time read all of the stickied threads about hardware performance if you're unsure.
Suggestion: Perhaps rename some of the "fast" categories so that they aren't "as fast", such as maybe moving the names down by one?

For example, rename the "Very fast" category to "Fast" and then rename the "Extremely fast" category to "Very fast".

Just thinking about how newer dolphin versions are slower.
Then wtf do I put in extremely fast? "Haswell cpus overclocked to 9GHz"?
I don't mean to move everything down a hierarchy, I just mean to rename the current hierarchies to not-as-fast names.
It's sad that he didn't continue on the superior thread. This one is outdated and very wrong thanks to him not wanting to listen to the suggestions.

Personally I think that thread has too much info-dumping and not enough focus on raw data, charts, lists, etc.
Thing is it is a dump right now, but he was planning to make it more organized and have more detailed info on the CPU's instead of the generic stuff he put in this thread.
Hopefully we'll get a good benchmark going to collect data with 4.0 here.

Your tears taste delicious.

Data = information

So you're right. What that thread really needs is more information Tongue.

Yes I know I went off the deep end when I wrote that thread. The thing is while I was writing explanations for why X is faster than Y I kept thinking to myself "what if they don't know what this term or concept means?". Explaining that term then requires explaining other terms and before you know I arrived at the conclusion that I basically need to write a book on microprocessors before progressing into any kind of significant explanation of any of the data. At which point I decided "fuck this, it's not worth it".

And there are so many variations of every cpu architecture that the entire list becomes bafflingly complicated if you don't take a simplified/reduced stance like this thread does. You can't include everything. It's nuts.
