Damn I'm going to have to keep this hotline open 24/7.
Not to be aggravating or anything, but I was just curious about something. Is there any performance difference in dolphin between an ivybridge Pentium and an ivybridge i3? I'm not talking about differences while using the IGP, but using a dedicated GPU. Say they both were paired with the same gpu. I know the i3 has hyper threading and the pentium does not. I know many people have claimed that the i7 doesn't really provide better results than an i5. I was thinking this would be the same kind of difference, but not as high-end.
Well the clock rates are also a bit lower so they will not perform as well. Also they cannot be OCed at all while the i3s can be OCed 400MHz past the stock max turboboost frequency. At stock clock rates the difference isn't going to be huge (10-15% at the absolute most).

I didn't think the i3 had turboboost. I also didn't think that dolphin catered to multi-threading. I was trying to compare the Intel Pentium G 2130 ivybridge 3.2 Ghz with the Intel Core i3 3210 ivybridge 3.2Ghz. They both have the same cache size, same clock rate, and two physical cores. The only difference is the i3 has 4 threads where the pentium has 2 threads. I really don't see why there would be a performance difference in dolphin unless it utilized the "fake" cores, as I like to call it. Do you know of any direct comparisons of these two specific chips running dolphin.
I'm looking to build a 3rd pc to run dolphin only. My gaming rig has core i5 3570k and it runs it like a dream. My htpc has the AMD A-10 5800k. In this build, I'm going to pair the cpu with a radeon 7770. I don't want to spend the cash on another i5 because I don't need my games to be complete full speed, just better than what the A-10 achieves.
Unless it's the best kept secret in the industry i3, at least on desktop, do not have turboboost. I'm not sure if background tasks can take advantage of the extra threads while dolphin is running or not but it probably wouldn't be a huge improvement.
You are correct. My mistake. i3s do not support turboboost or limited overclocking.
Edit: The two models you're comparing seem to be identical except that the pentium lacks hyperthreading and AVX support (as well as some IGP features). Both of which are not useful to dolphin. They should give you the same performance.

Thanks. Do you know of anyone using the pentium g2130?
I3 3240 - 2x 3,4 GH - Most Games only with 60 - 80% Speed (HLE)
I7 980 EX @ 6x 3,9 GH - Most Games running with 70 - 90% Speed (HLE and AX-HLE with audio Crackling) and (LLE - speed go down to 60 - 78%)
@robreavis
Nope. It's a brand new cpu model and we generally recommend users to invest more money into something like an i5 3570K.

but you still cant play without any issues. Like Audio Crackling, Low FPS... i tested 40 Games...10 of them are unplayable because low fps and 23 Games with Audio or Video Bugs.
i also Overclocked my I7 980 up to 6x 4,2 GH Watercoled... but still the same issues..
