The reason I'm going AMD is because I get the motherboard free with this CPU. I would rather go Intel, but eh.

It will work but an i5 2500K is a much better cpu for dolphin.

I'll take that advice when I have the money for an upgrade.

He came here to find out if his PC is good enough to run the game. If the answer is no and to buy a new PC, then that's the answer. We could always lie and tell him it'll run wonderfully, that wouldn't actually be true, though.

If you bought that, you'd need a new processor as soon as you got it. Those don't perform well with Dolphin. If i were you I'd get the i5-2500k, (since it's a good processor and cheaper than their newest stuff) the rest of what you listed is fine.

I vote against this , Phenom II 980 is much faster when it comes to dolphin , i5 2500k is much faster than Phenom II 980
Unless you only play non-demanding games , this rig is ok

It's a quad core , it's 20% faster than dual core even if dolphin don't support quad core . Besides , Phenom I is faster than Athlon clock for clock

Would an i3 1200 suffice instead of an i5 2500k?

I recommend Pentium G860 over i3 2100 , it's cheaper . See :

i3 has Hyper Threading feature (2 cores 4 threads) and Dolphin does not benefit from HT
i3 2120 or i3 2130 is much faster

And why are you discussing this to me? As if I didn't already know.

Quad cores are obviously faster, who denied that?
