I remember, before I got my current rig, I wanted to see how good Dolphin would run on Linux, but all I had was a weak laptop. I can see where you're coming from on that point. It was helpful/reassuring to know I wasn't going to be disappointed with my upgrade.
Another use for it is so the compress/uncompress ISO feature can be used, so that Dolphin can be used as a nice Wii or GC game image collection manager. Dolphin won't even start without SSE2, right?

On that subject, is afaik even a word, as dolphin's forum is the only place I've seen it used, and Google spell-check doesn't seem to like it?
AFAIK == As Far As I Know.
Non-capitalised acronyms can be confusing. I'd probably have worked that out if it was capitalised.
